AMYBELLA WAS UNABLE TO SAY
anything. She wasn't even able to think of anything.

After a year, her mother married a complete stranger, as if she had forgotten her deceased love. Hence the move to Canada.
He had given her the big house. Hence all the expense of the trip.

"Then you must be Amybella! I'm Marcus." He stood up, approached the blonde girl and shook her hand. But Amybella only gave him a stare in return.

"I can understand if that's a bit too much for you right now, of course, but I'll take good care of you both."

So she needed him for his money.
She needed him for them to survive.
Bella had come to understand, that they couldn't live forever on the money their father had left them. However, the fact that her mother would bring a new man into the house after a year without her knowing about it was not at all to her liking.

Amybella was walking home as usual when she was suddenly grabbed by her arms. The girl was about to scream when Gilbert's voice rang out.

"Shhh, it's just me," the boy said and she punched him indignantly on the upper arm.

"How dare you!" She scolded him and received a giggle.

"Come with me," he said and started to run.

"I have to go home." Amybella disagreed.
He came to her, took her hand and pulled her along.

"Gilbert! Don't do that." He laughed heartily and stomped through the snow.
Amybella stumbled after him.

"I'm expected home!" she protested as Gilbert's house came into view. They ran towards it and climbed up the terrace.

"You could have just asked me and not dragged me here." Amybella grumbled again.

"Would you have said yes? Come on, my father wanted to see you again because you left so quickly last time." They ran inside, into his father's room.

"Hello Mr. Blythe." Bella greeted the old man.

"Ah Amybella. I'm glad you're here!" his face was beaming.

"How are you?" she asked nervously, after all, she hardly knew the man.

"Hrm.. as well as one can be in my position eh?" he smiled warmly. Amybella nodded and there was a hint of sadness in her gaze as she thought of the fact that Gilbert would soon be alone.

"Gilbert should make you some tea." He nodded towards the boy and Gilbert left the room.
Bella looked around the small room a little and discovered small carved wooden figures. She stared at them and immediately thought of her father.

In earlier times, he had always sat with her at a small, cozy lake behind the house and carved.
He had said that knives were not for little girls when she had watched him carve.
