~Centuries Ago~

Watching Dianxia rest peacefully made me extremely anxious. I kept pacing and even though my feet didn't make any sound; my Dianxia knew every moment of my self. He knew I was jittery, he knew I was in pain; he knew that these were final fleeting moments between us.

"San... Lang..."

The moment he called I was next to him. Braving a smile I cupped his withered pale face and kissed his forehead, "I am here my love."

Fluttering his eyes open with all the might he could muster; Dianxia gave me a serene smile, "I love you."

This was the exact moment we both knew had to be my breaking point. Averting my eyes and taking a deep breath; all I could chant inwardly was Not now. Don't cry now.

"I am sorry San Lang. Your Dianxia could not fulfill his promise to-" cutting him off with a kiss on his frail thin lips I shook my head and grinned for his sake, "Don't. Dianxia never should be sorry towards me. You've given me life and I believe this is not the end. Your body maybe mortal now but I know the power of my love will bring you back. For however long I have to wait, I will. For you and only you; I will keep waiting until the end of time."

Dianxia kept staring at my face whilst I tried memorizing his form.

Please. Just few more seconds.

"I'll be born mortal again San Lang. How long would you keep waiting?"

"If forever is the word then forever it is."

It was then my Dianxia unclasped the chain which contained my ashes and handed it back to me.
(A/n: It is believed that if there are no ashes then the Ghost Supreme cannot survive.)

"Take this San Lang. You need to keep your ashes safe."

All I could do was caress the intricate design on the pendant and reminice my words once uttered to Dianxia when we met after all those 800 years.

'If the place where I kept my ashes is destroyed; then I have no use of living.'

How do I reveal to Dianxia that for him to be born again; I traded my life for a boon? Even if I destroy this ring; it won't be an end for me.

Taking the chain I once again and probably for last time clasp it on his neck and place my palm on his heart, "Keep it. Remember me. Let this guide you back to your San Lang."

As he held my hand over his heart, we both observed that the red string that bound us together was slowly fading away. His time was nearing and there was nothing I could do to stop him. In centuries that we have been apart and spent together as husbands, I was never powerful enough to stop his pain. All I could do was stand by his side and watch him wither in pain.

In our marital bliss we both forgot he was God; and having descended numerous time, in process he started losing the main essence that kept him alive; his immortality. Dianxia kept aging while I retained my youth. It was of concern for us because he started showing ailments and there was no one who could help us.

Last few years his health had deteriorated and all I could do was witness his pain from sidelines. Having commanded the Ghost City to find a solution to his mortality, an old shaman predicted that Dianxia's end was inevitable.

To watch your love withering away in pain was even worse than the word devastation. For me he was my light and slowly that was being taken away from me.

One night I met that same shaman without Dianxia's knowledge and traded my life for his, "If even for just one single moment bring him back. I can lead my entire existence with this knowledge that I'll meet him again. Even if he can't be by my side, it would be enough to just have that one glimpse of him. I want my Dianxia to live, breathe and experience life again. Just once."
