The bright sun causes me to wake up. I rub my eyes with my hands. That's when I realize I must have left the curtains open. If they are still open now, Eduardo must have not seen me laying here. Otherwise, he would have surely closed them. I sigh heavily. In my head all the events from last night rewind. From the kiss to the conversation on the beach. It's been a while since I have felt this way.
"Harry!? I want to go for a run," I hear from the direction of Eduardo's bedroom. "Have you seen my shoes?" I hear the door to his bedroom open and then his footsteps in the hallway. Shit! I jump off the couch and run towards him. "Wait? What?" Eduardo points to my bedroom door that is still closed.
"Ssst!"
"But?"
"No!"
"You?" Eduardo raises his eyebrows. "There?" I push my hand over his mouth.
"Shut up!" Eduardo nods obediently. "Emily," I whisper. His eyes grow wide and he starts to wiggle his way out of my grip. "No! I don't trust you, dude. You won't ruin this!"
A creaking noise fills the apartment. Eduardo and I both quirk our heads up. My bedroom door opens up and we see Emily in my shirt and sport shorts. With a grin on her face, she watches the sight of us in each other's arms. Eduardo and I let go of each other instantly. As two nervous kids, we stand next to each other.
"Hola, preciosa," Eduardo says. I jab him in the side and give him a warning look. "Buenos días." Eduardo whistles as he walks away.
"Did you sleep okay?"
"Yeah, pretty good. You? On the couch?"
"I slept swell. Thanks for asking," Eduardo yells from the living room. There are moments in life where I wish I would live on my own. This is one of those moments. Eduardo is not the most subtle guy I know. I warned him for a reason.
Emily frowns in the direction the noise came from. I let out a short laugh.
"Unfortunately he speaks Dutch too." Emily's mouth curls up slowly. "Shall we get some breakfast?" She nods in agreement. "Ladies first." Emily walks into the living room and glances over her shoulder to check if I am following.
"So we have one of the troublemakers in my own home." Eduardo is sitting at the table and takes a sip from his coffee. If looks could kill, he would be buried six feet under right now.
"Uhm, hi." Emily takes the seat across from him. Before she sits down she checks over her shoulder again with a questioning look. I give her a small smile and sit down next to her at the table.
"So, troublemaker. First, you cause a scene at the bar, and then you go home with the bartender."
"Ed! Leave her be," I warn him.
"Okay, okay, let me ask this." Eduardo scratches behind his ear. "Did you two kiss?"
"What?!" Emily and I exclaim at the same time. I don't dare look at her, but in the corner of my eye, I can see her cheeks flush.
"Okay, that's what I thought. Coffee anyone?" Eduardo gets up and walks to the kitchen.
"Please!" I reply. I sigh and give Emily an apologetic look.
"And the troublemaker?" Emily starts to laugh.
"Please, with a bit of milk!"
Imagine being thrown into something like this. I admire Emily for not running out of this house yet. She turns to me and smiles. Without realising it, I smile back at her. I enjoy her presence.
"How long are you staying for?" I hear from the kitchen. It is silent in the living room after his question. Emily stares at me with a confused look in her eyes. We literally just met, Eduardo, I hear myself think. "Here on Mallorca." I let out the breath I hadn't noticed I was holding in.
