Time seemed to play in slow motion as the knife came plummeting toward me with a promise of injury. Or something even worse. But before I could even scream, or feel fear, or even process what was happening, the reflexes ingrained in my very muscles took action.
I caught Sayaka's wrist just as the knife was only a few inches away from its destination. I then turned her small wrist over, causing her to lose her grip on the knife. The sharp object dropped to the floor as I swiped my leg out under Sayaka's feet, making her lose her balance. She yelped in surprise as I used the momentum to throw her to the ground. I pinned her wrists with my hands, my knee pressed up against her stomach with my legs on either side of her, taking her ability to move freely.
She struggled against my grasp. But I had gravity, leverage, and probably physical strength on my side. So her attempts were futile. "Let me go! Let me go!" Her voice was hoarse and desperate.
"Sayaka, what did you see in your motive video? Why did you try to kill Leon!" I tried to keep my voice firm and not shaky as Leon looked at the situation happening before him in horror, letting out cries of surprise and fear.
Tears were now streaming down Sayaka's pale face as she continued struggling, thrashing her arms and legs. But not with as much force as before due to exhaustion.
"N-no! It's a misunderstanding! I didn't- I just-" she stumbled over her words. "Just let me go!"
"Sayaka. Tell me what happened."
"Stop it!"
"Sayaka!"
"Let me go! I need to kill-"
Smack!
A few moments of silence rang through the air, replacing the commotion as Sayaka processed the fact that I just slapped her. I brought my hand back down on her wrist and forced her to meet my eyes.
"I know whatever you saw was hard for you. It was hard for all of us. But actually succumbing to Monokuma's wishes is not the way to solve this!"
Sayaka screamed a few more protests before she finally calmed down enough for me to understand what she was saying. "But I-I need to kn-know what happened to- t- to…" She sniffled and slowly gave up on trying to free herself from my hold.
My expression softened as I felt a stab of pity. But I quickly shook it off. "Who are you talking about? Who do you need to see?"
"M-my group members… Monokuma... hurt them. I need to see what happened to them…"
Sayaka trailed off, her face becoming a mess of ruined make up as she sobbed on the floor. She has completely given up on her struggle and was just letting the tears flow.
Eventually, I dared to release my hands from her wrist, and lifted my knee off her stomach. I kept my eyes on her just in case she tried anything else, but she looked so immersed in her grief that I decided she wouldn't. I stood up, picking the knife up off of the floor.
I held it at my side, and glanced over at Leon. He had picked up a golden sword that just happened to be in the room, and was pointing it toward Sayaka as he shuffled over to the exit, a terrorized look in his blue irises.
I looked back at Sayaka, who was still on the ground and crying, her hair and clothes a mess. I held out my hand to her, patiently waiting for her to notice my gesture. When she did, she hesitantly took my hand. I helped her to her feet, and she wiped the tears from her eyes.
"I need… to kill someone. To get out of here… It's the only way." Sayaka spoke so sorry I could barely hear her.
I put my hand on her back. "Maybe you don't have to kill someone. There's a peaceful solution to any problem. And even if you did manage to kill someone, what if you got caught? Then you definitely won't get to see the people you care about."
