Carl's pov:
Flashback:
"You got any fives?"
I sigh and hand Anna three fives from my hand of cards while she fist pumps.
"You got any sevens?" She asks hopefully.
"Go fish." I say, allowing myself to smirk just a little bit.
Anna picks up a card from the pile and looks at me expectantly.
I look through my cards for a second before throwing my cards down on the porch step to prove a point.
"I don't want to play this game anymore!" I cry. "We should be out there helping them."
Anna calmly picks up my cards along with the rest of the deck and shuffles them together.
"You can barely protect yourself let alone trap a prisoner, silly."
"I can to protect myself." I growl. "They need to find Randall and I could help."
"Well I'm glad he got away." Anna says in a smart tone. "They were gonna kill him, or at least hurt him."
Anna wasn't allowed to know that Daryl beat him up to get answers from him.
"Good Lord, woman." I sigh. "Do you know how much trouble you would be in if I told your father that I caught you visiting him?"
Anna narrows her eyes at me with a sneer on her face.
"You'll do no such thing." She says while shuffling the deck of cards for what seems like the thirtieth time. "And I was just bringing water to him."
"Why not?" I taunt her.
"Because if you do that I'll tell your father that I caught you sneaking out the other day." She says smugly.
"You can't even prove that!" I protest.
At that moment Mom stuck her head out the screen door to scold us for fighting.
"Sorry, Mrs. Grimes." Anna apologizes. "We didn't mean to disturb you."
"It's fine, Anna, and I've told you to call me Lori." Mom says with a soft smile on her face. I think she wishes Anna was her daughter. "What were you two fighting about anyway?"
I hold my breath for a second.
"Oh nothing, Carl is just upset because he didn't win our game of 'Go Fish'." Anna says, laughing half way through what she's saying.
"Carl!" Mom says with surprise. "Don't be a sore loser!"
"Mom-" I start to complain but she stops me.
"Now you be a good sport. You're lucky you have Anna to play with. Don't stay out here to much longer, okay? I don't want you guys out here when it's dark."
When she leaves I waste no time in glaring at Anna.
"What?" Anna says defensively. "It was the best thing I could think of on the spot!"
I shake my head and roll my eyes at her instead of answering.
"I still say that I could help."
Anna sighs and rolls her eyes back at me.
"I could too protect myself and you know it. I could protect you if I had too." I say nonchalantly.
"My hero." She says dreamily in a mock country accent.
