Samantha Rose groaned as her alarm clock went off.

"Yay! School!" Samantha said sarcastically.

"Great it is my first day at Stars high and I have no idea what I am going to wear!" Samantha said as she got out of bed and turned to her closet. Her mother had been pestering her to pick her first day of school clothes but, when you move three times in four months the excitement of the first day of school starts to fade. Samantha finally decided on a blue shirt with a pink heart, light blue skinny jeans and pink cowgirl boots. She brushed her brown curly hair and put it in a French braid. She ran outside to feed her German Shepherd Elsie. Elsie was five years old and Samantha's best friend during the past year when her parents decided they were going to move to Nevada.

"Samantha honey you don't want to go to school on an empty stomach!" Samantha's mother said from the porch. Samantha's mother had blond hair and deep blue eyes like Samantha.

"Coming!," Samantha answered, then, she whispered in her dog's ear," See you soon Elsie."

Samantha ran inside, sat at the table and began eating her pancakes.

20 minutes later after she went through her backpack three times, she walked down the street to her bus stop. There was only one other person there. A girl with long red hair and green eyes stood at the bus stop, holding a bag of what looked like shoes.

"Oh great I am stuck at a bus stop with a crazy athletic girl," Samantha thought to her self about the girls at her last school.

"Hi, I'm Lilli . So you are the girl who moved into the house at the end of the street?" the girl, Lilli, said.

"Are you talking to me? Ya I live at the house on the end of the street. I'm Samantha. What are the shoes for?" Samantha asked startled.

"They are for PE I stink at it but I want to get the best grade I can. So, I am a freshman, what are you?" Lilli asked.

" I'm a freshman too," Samantha answered. After ten minutes Samantha found out her and Lilli had all the same classes and both had German Shephards. Lilli's dog Daisy was a black German Shepard like Elsie. Lilli was wearing a white lace dress with brown cowgirl boots which were her favorite. Lilli also had a horse Rosie who was a strawberry appaloosa.

"Do you have a horse?" Lilli wondered.

"No but I would love one," Samantha said thinking of the perfect horse, "Jet black mustang mare with a fiery spirit, named Wind Dance," Samantha said inside her head.

" Well maybe you could come over sometime? Samantha?" Lily asked shyly.

Samantha was shot from her daydream," Sorry. Yeah I would love that! So your parents own Eastmon Ranch right? Wait... Your Lilli Eastmon! The state champion for bareback riding!" Samantha exclaimed remembering a TV program about the Nevada State horse championship.

" Yeah I love bareback riding... Samantha? I... Well... Are you going to be friends with me because I am state champion?" Lilli asked with a ping of sadness.

" I like you for you, well that sounded weird, anyway I would never be friends with you just because you were state champion!" said Samantha hoping she sounded sincere.

"Oh good." Lilli said with a sigh," Kylie Bell was friends with me just because I was state champion so I was making sure you weren't the same." Then the bus came around the corner, and the girls got on and sat in the front. Lilli told her about their history and English teacher, Ms. Krane, their biology teacher Mr. Daniel, their kindle math teacher Mrs. Grove, their choir teacher Ms. Noel, and finally their PE teacher Mr. Mello.

Later, they got off the bus and headed for their first class.

3 hours later after history biology and math the girls walk into the lunch room, with their lunches. Samantha's was blue with pink stars, and Lilli's was green with yellow hearts. Lilli started walking towards a table where a girl with light blonde hair and glasses sat eating a sandwich.

"What's up Emily?" Lilli asked as she sat across from Emily.

" Oh nothing," Emily answered. Emily looked at Samantha and said to Lilli," So are you going to introduce me to your friend?"

"Oh yeah, sorry. Samantha this is Emily an amazing barrel racer. Emily this is Samantha, she moved into the house at the end of my road."

"Hi Samantha! You moved into the Patterson's house? Oh sorry I guess it's your house... Hey do you have a horse?" Emily asked trying to change the subject.

"No but I would love one. Who are the Pattersons?" Samantha asked.

" They are the... Well... They were a family of four that own everything! The kids were spoiled brats! When they moved Kylie cry for 3 days and said she would die because Molly moved. if you ask her now she won't know who you're talking about. she is the girl in the pink dress with the smooth 'perfect' black hair and white heels," Emily answered with a scratch of jealously in the back of her throat.

After an awkward silence, Emily changed the subject.

"There is a horse that lives around these parts. She is a jet black mustang mare. She is the leader of her herd, she doesn't need a stallion! She is so elegant and strong, a beautiful mare," Emily bragged as if she owned the horse.

"Have you ever seen her?" Samantha asked with amazment.

"Well... Um... No but I have heard stories," Emily said blushing.

"Does the mare's herd really have no stallion?" Samantha asked turning to Lilli.

"No. The herd would not survive with out a stallion. What Emily meant," Lilli said glaring at Emily," is she is the leader, there still is a stallion." When she saw the puzzlement on Samantha's face she continued," So in a normal herd the lead mare is second to the stallion, but in the herd Emily is talking about, if it exists at all, the lead mare is number one and the stallion is second." Samantha nodded her head and then started planing what she would do that night, she didn't really know how but she was going to see that mare.
