Samantha sat on the bus chewing her finger nails.
"Samantha chill! Everything will be ok. Your aunt is a vet," Lilli said trying to make Samantha feel better.
"That's just it! She has the power to take her off the range permanently! I don't want that to happen! I would never forgive myself if that happened," Samantha cried out, her voice cracking. Heads turned toward the girls, and the bus driver asked if everything was ok.
"Yes sir," Lilli answered the bus driver,
"Ok I see this really upsets you. I wish I could help but I'm not allowed to go out onto the range," Lilli sighed and continued, "Ok, does your aunt love you and care about you?"
"Yes."
"Well I think you can trust your aunt to do what is best for the horse and you." Lilli said softly in a sincere way.
The bus stopped and the girls got off.
"I will try but I still don't feel good about this," Samantha said.
"Ok just remember your aunt is only trying to help. Ok?"
Samantha nodded.
Lilli sighed as she walked towards her house, "Ok, see you tomorrow."
After Lilli started walking down her street, Samantha's aunt drove up in her white truck with a horse trailer.
"Hey there sugar cube! How's my baby sister's girl doin'?" Samantha's aunt Mimi yelled over the sound of a truck's roaring engine. Samantha's aunt Mimi had shoulder length wavy blonde hair, and emerald green eyes.
"Good. Um why do you have a horse trailer?"
"Cause your mother Mae, told me that this horse is very hurt, so just in case I brought my horse trailer," Mimi explained as she jumped out of her truck.
"Oh," Samantha whispered.
"Honey, I know you don't want the horse to leave the range but I am trying to help her and I need you to understand that because this isn't just about keeping her on the range but also alive and if taking her out of the wild is necessary, then that is what I will do it. Ok?"
"Fine," Samantha said, still frowning at the trailer.
Mimi exhaled loudly, and said," Ok, let's get going," as she walked over to the drivers side of the truck. Samantha opened the passenger door, sat down and buckled her seatbelt. Samantha's aunt put her truck into drive and headed down the road.
"So the mare is near Horse Ridge Valley right?"
"Kinda. She was a mile or so away but still close, to her herd," Samantha said trying to think of the positives of her aunt helping her.
"Ok we'll head over there," Mimi said as she smiled at Samantha trying to lighten the mood. Samantha gave a quick weak smile and turned her head and stared out the window, hoping that they would return to her house without anything in the trailer.
