Samantha took one more step. Then two more steps until she was standing two feet from the mare. The horse was breathing heavily, and was weakly looking at Samantha. She then crouched down at her knees so she was almost level with the mare. She took an apple and her medical kit out of her bag. She softly rolled the apple toward the horse. The mare moved her head and lipped the apple while watching Samantha, as she inched closer to the mare. Samantha made sure the mare was watching when she gently set her hand on the mare's shoulder and very lightly slid her hand down to the mare's knee. She put a small amount of healing cream on the bandage before wrapping it around the horse's knee. She then repeated that but with the mare's hoof. When she got to the hoof she cleaned it out with water and put cream on it. Surprisingly the mare was enjoying the bandaging of her leg. Samantha then put a special tape wrap on the mare's hoof to help it from getting worse. Samantha slowly rose to see her handy work. The horse seem relaxed like she had just had a massage, and her leg looked better. Samantha knew this would barely last a day and she would have to do the same thing the next day. She chewed her lip.
"I hope I can come out every night. She needs my help," Samantha whispered as she gathered her stuff. She started walking home and turned around to see the mare slowly stand up, get on her feet, and give the most beautiful neigh Samantha had ever heard.
