Charlie's perspective

I jump off the couch when I hear Leo barking. When did I fall asleep? I don't remember doing that.
"Leo stop barking!" I get up and walk to him, rubbing my eyes. I wander over to the window.
"What are you even ba-oh no." My eyes widen, my heart drops.
Leo stands by my legs growling. I can see why.
A mob of about 30 zombies are slowly making there way down our street. Right towards us. I look over to the shelf I pushed in front of the door. Their is no way that can hold all those creatures!
"Leo we need to run."
I sprint into the kitchen, grabbing everything I had set out for a quick getaway. I grab extra food and stuff that into my backpack. Leo's still at the door barking. I'm running out of time.
BANG! My head jerks towards the door. Strike that I'm out of time.
"LEO!" I scream "HERE BOY!"
He comes running back over to me, tail between his legs.
BANG! The door won't hold for long.
I run to the back door. Pushing it open, running forward.
I run across our deck and lower Leo into the forest behind us. I risk a look behind me, bad idea.
The zombies had broken down the shelf and were getting closer. There were at least 10 already in my house, my safe haven. Their eyes looked dark and blank. They weren't human anymore.
And they just keep coming.
I jump down into the grass and start running as fast as I can. I knew these woods like the back of my hand. So I run, I run as fast as I can. I have no knowledge of these zombies. Can they run? Are they fast? I don't know so I run. Branches hit my face and arms, bushes scratch my legs. I jump over logs dodge trees. I just keep going, thankful now for trying in gym class and all my many conditioning days in sports. I risk a look over my shoulder and slow to a jog at the lack of zombies.
As I near the end of the forest I start to walk, catching my breath. Im near the plaza. I lean over breathing hard.
Leo starts rubbing his head against my leg. I Jump in surprise, landing on my butt.
"Leo, You scared me." I look out of the woods. "Now what?"
I rub his back, brushing the leaves out of his dark brown fur.
"I've been forced out of my home into the wild. Where I now have no shelter and guess what there are also zombies."
I kick at a tree. Huffing.
"Well that's just not fair." I wander to the back of a store. Hoping and praying I will find other humans.
Why Didn't I think of that before? Right zombies on the streets.
I pry at back door. Kicking in frustration as the lock refuses to budge. My eyes twitch to the alley leading me into the street.
I take a deep breath in and slowly creep towards the opening.
"Leo!" I whisper through clenched teeth, his ears pipe up and he looks over to me. I wave my hand and pay my leg.
"Here boy, come here."
He runs over to my side and looks up at me. I breath out slowly as I reach the edge. I reach to my belt and pull out a knife, holding it in front of me. I peek into the street and after seeing nothing quickly bolt into the open. I spin in a circle, eyes searching for danger.
"Well," I relax my body, "This is strange." Items litter the street, shops left open. Cars left parked, the street seemed deserted.
"Where is everyone?" I turn around again looking over my shoulder.
"Or even where's all the zombies, things." I shudder. Saying zombies out loud made it sound so childish and fake. I hate it, this is real and it's happening. I walk down the street, trying to open the doors of the shops. I push against the electronic stores door. The door collapses in, with me on it.
Dust fills my lungs.
I sit up coughing into my arm,
"Hello?" I slowly push myself up onto my feet. "Is anyone there?" I walk to the back, peeking into the isles.
"Anyone here."
I pick up one of the cameras and put it back down. Grimacing from the dust. I spin around at the sudden crash behind me. Jumping behind a desk.
"Dang it Leo!" I groan out. Picking myself up from the ground I look over to him.
"Hey you hungry boy?" I throw a opened tuna can at him, laughing as he pounces in the can. I continue my exploring of the abandoned store. Humming to myself I examine the cameras.
I pause when one catches my eye.
I reach out and dust off a smaller video camera. I flip it open and the screen flickers to life. Turning the screen to me I click record.
"Hello, I'm Charlie Wilde. I'm 14 and at the moment alone except for my dog Leo." I aim the camera at him for a moment before turning it back to me. "It's been 1 week since the outbreak happened. I was at school at the time. " I stop talking.
My brain goes back to the memory.
*flashback*
"Jump! Riz just jump!" I scream up at him. His terrified face peeking out of the window. He whips his head back to the things then back to me.
"JUMP!" My voice comes out broken, I scream again.
"JUMP!" He looks to me one last time before turning back to the classroom.
*End flashback*
I shiver. Looking back to the camera.
"Umm Im in the plaza, I was forced out of my home by those zombie things. I found this camera, and well now I'm recording myself. Might as well document my journey. Make this seem more like a movie." I force a smile, "that's all for now. Charlie out." I salute the camera then turn it off. I look down at the video camera in my hand before stuffing it in my pocket for safe keeping.
