Ellie
Ellie, Claudia, Richard, and Tom all stood in the room where multiple FBI agents talked, trying to figure out their next step.
"So Officer Benzinni was last seen leaving the hospital at twelve hundred hours. She took an Uber home and turned her phone off. The next time her phone was connected was when she reached her apartment building. A few moments later is when we estimate she was abducted." One of the agents started briefing the new agents on the case.
"A note was found beside a puddle of blood on the floor," explained the other agent, which was the one that had been questioning Allison all morning.
Ellie couldn't help but look away as she saw the photograph. The note read:
'No one messes with my business, an eye for an eye. This isn't over yet.'
There was a lot of movement, people talking, and while that was going on, an agent went over to the Benzinni family.
"Commissioner, I have to ask you and your family to stay out of the way and let us work on this one," And even though they left the building, they definitely didn't stop working.
They all met at the house and started planning, they had convinced the FBI to let Tom stay at headquarters in case they needed any extra information about Allison, and he would feed them information that he learned. They also connected via video call with a very distraught Charlie who was trying to remember anything that could be of use.
"I'm pretty sure this whole thing is being conducted by a Rafael Rodríguez." After giving that name to Tom, he called back, telling them he was one of the most wanted on the FBI search list.
They worked and talked for hours on end, and the clock ticking in the Benzinni living room only made everyone feel more nervous.
"I wasn't in that warehouse all the time," Charlie remembered. "I remember the first day I got there, I was taken to this apartment, they had put something in my drink that made me drowsy, but I'm pretty sure it's where Rafael could have maybe been. It was where they took the girls to be validated."
"What do you mean validated?" Richard asked.
"If he didn't like them to work, they didn't come back in the van with us."
"And is there anything you remember about that place?" Ellie was becoming desperate to find something. She couldn't help but feel like it was all her fault.
"The car ride wasn't too long, it couldn't be longer than ten minutes, and it was nighttime, so there weren't many car noises."
"Think about it, Officer Reigns. What noises did you hear?"
Charlie closed her eyes, trying to separate every noise she was hearing that night. She heard her heart beating, people's footsteps, she heard someone's phone ring and pigs. She heard pigs.
"I heard pigs. I remember I was so confused, and I didn't understand why I was hearing pigs, but there were pig noises."
"Pigs?"
"Yeah, pigs, like four-legged, pink dogs with curly tails."
They all looked at each other, thinking.
"There's a farm where I sometimes go with my school children, which is about ten minutes away from where they found you," Rachel's voice made her way into the conversation for the first time.
"Who is that?" Claudia asked.
"My sister, sorry, Commissioner."
"Put her on the phone," Rachel's face appeared on the phone. She looked terribly young. She had a chubby face, brown wavy hair all over the place, and a small smile on her face. "Where is that farm you're talking about?"
"The one I'm thinking about is grey mouse farm on grey mouse road, but Ma'am, there are so many farms around that area, it would be a real coincidence if that was the exact farm."
"Why did you think of that farm when we said pigs?"
"Last time we went there, the pigs were really noisy, the children loved it, but I remember it made my head go crazy."
"It's the best we've got for now." Claudia looked at her husband and her daughter, and they all made their way to the cars. Tom and Ellie went in one while Claudia and Richard went in the other.
"Charlie, Rachel, I need to hang up, but Char, I will let you know as soon as we know something."
They took a while to get to the farm. As they got closer, they drove slowly and made their exit on a nearby street. They walked carefully close enough to see two men with guns guarding the door. They had found the place.
Claudia Benzinni called for backup. Fifteen minutes later, they were raiding the place. Rafael Rodríguez was apprehended, but Allison was nowhere to be found.
