Allison saw Ellie arrive at the scene minutes after the ambulance had. She was shaking, her hands were trembling, she could see on her face she didn't know what was happening, what to expect. She saw how she looked around trying to find a familiar face but couldn't see anything with the mass of police officers and paramedics that swarmed the area. She finally saw her and looked at her blood-filled hands hugging Charlie. Allison was crying, she was crying too much and that made Ellie extremely anxious.
"Allison, what? What happened? Is he?" Ellie grabbed her sister's arm, making her let go of the hug she was trying to take refuge in.
"He... he...Ellie... he" She tried, but she couldn't talk.
"He's critical," Charlie took over, seeing how Allison was too overcome to talk. "He has two gunshot wounds in the upper left side of his chest. The medics are working on him now."
"Was he conscious? Was he breathing?" Ellie kept on talking to her sister, which made her more distraught and she found she couldn't talk. Ellie's eyes grew wide, looking fearful, and she shook Allison, yelling "ALLISON TALK TO ME"
"He was talking, and then he wasn't Ellie. I tried... I started CPR, but the ambulance got here just a few seconds later, they pushed me away," Charlie placed her hand on her back, trying to give her some sort of comfort.
Ellie ran to where they were treating her brother, she saw him lying on the floor, no one was doing CPR but they where trying to stop his bleeding which meant he was breathing on his own. He was alive. She ran to him and held his head.
"You don't get to die, you hear me?" She whispered, kissing his forehead, "You don't get to do this Parker, you weren't supposed to be the first twin to go."
Ellie couldn't help but remember the fights they used to have about her having to die before him because she had been the first to go out of their mother's womb. She always said it would be him first, and he always argued it should be her because she was older.
"Ellie," he got to say before he started coding again. He was in the ambulance before she could even realize it, and she was just sitting on the floor.
"Ellie, we have to go." She looked up to see Allison with her arm spread out, waiting for her to take her hand. "They're taking him to Mayflower. Mom and Dad must be there already."
Charlie walked closely to them and gave Allison a weak smile.
"I'll take you guys to the hospital. My car is right there."
Allison and Ellie cuddled up in the back of Charlotte's car. Their sobbing was being melted into the light tunes that played on the radio. Charlie didn't know what to do to help, she knew how they were feeling. It hit a bit too close to home for her liking, but that girl in the backseat hugging her sister, who she had just met a few hours before, was going to be in her life a long time, and the way she decided to treat her and behave on that day were going to be important factors in their partnership later on.
They arrived at the hospital just seconds after the ambulance, a distraught Jackson helped the paramedics pull his brother out of the bus, and he and Mindy started working on him as soon as they were inside. Hospital policy normally prevented family members from working on family members, but it was the middle of the night, and he was the only trauma surgeon on call. The waiting room quickly started filling up with police officers. Claudia and Richard Benzinni were received with a wave of silence as they walked into the room looking for their daughters.
"Dad," Ellie fell into her father's arms, crying as soon as they reached them. Richard held onto her tightly but didn't keep his eyes off his youngest daughter, who sat on the floor like a child looking out of a glass window.
