A voice echoed through the train : "We will be reaching Hogwarts in five minutes' time. Please leave your luggage on the train,it will be taken to the school separately."

My thoughts changed into anxiety wondering if people would like me. Hermionie confidently grabbed onto my arm and pulled me out of the compartment with Neville trailing behind.

The train slowed down and finally stopped. People pushed their way towards the door and out onto the tiny, dark platform -still grabbing onto me. Then a lamp came bobbing over the heads of the students. A voice spoke out: "Firs'-years! Firs'-years over here!" Hermionie pushed her way through the sea of people towards the giant, hairy man that was calling over all of the first years.

"C'mon follow me - any more firs'-years? Mind yer step now! Firs'- years follow me!" the man that told us he was Hagrid shouted.

Slipping and stumbling, they followed the large man down what seemed to be a steep narrow path. It was extremely dark down the passageway. Nobody spoke much, apart from Neville sniffing once or twice.

"Yeh'll get yer firs' sight o' Hogwarts in a sec ," Hagrid called over his shoulder, "jus' round this bend here"

There was a loud "Ooooh!" As Hermione turned to me in awe.

The narrow path had opened suddenly on to the edge of a great black lake. Perched atop a high mountain on the other side, its windows sparkling in the starry sky, was a vast castle with many turrets and towers. It was absolutely amazing.

"No more'n four to a boat!" Hagrid called, pointing towards a fleet of little boats sitting in the water by the shore. Hermione went to sit inside a boat with a boy with circular glasses and a scar on his forehead, a ginger haired boy with freckles and Neville ;whereas I was put into a boat with Malfoy and his two goonies. Malfoy smiled slightly at me as I sat down into the boat. The stars were twinkling in the sky and I stared up at them blocking the world out as I became lost in the stars (you don't get to see stars in the city, the street lights usually hide them from the busy streets).

I was awakened from my day dream when Hagrid yelled, "Heads down!" As the first boats reached the cliff, we all bent our heads and the little boats carried us through a curtain of ivy which hid a wide opening in the cliff face. We were carried along a dimly lit tunnel, which seemed to be taking us right underneath the castle, until we reached a kind of underground harbour, where we clambered out onto rocks and pebbles.

"Oy you there! Is this your toad?" said Hagrid who was checking the bats we had recently climbed out of.

" Trevor!" cried Neville blissfully, holding his hands out. I then waved a small goodbye at Draco and re-joined Hermione as we were led up a small passageway by Hagrid's lamp, coming out at last on to smooth, damp grass right into the shadow of the castle.

We walked up a flight of stone steps and joined the crowd around the huge, oak front door.

"Everyone here? You there, still got yer toad?"

Hagrid raised a gigantic fist and knocked three times on the castle door.
