The large doors flew open at once. A tall black-haired witch in emerald-green robes stood there; her face holding a stern look.

"The firs'years, Professor McGonagall," Hagrid said the strange looking woman.

"Thank you Hagrid, I will take them from here." She replied pulling the door wide.

The Entrance Hall was massive - much bigger than the rooms in Avengers tower. The stone walls were lit with flaming torches and led to a large staircase.

We followed Professor McGonagall across the stone floor and stopped; when I heard a drone of hundreds of voices on a doorway to the right of me meaning the rest of the school must already be here. Professor McGonagall made us follow her into a small empty chamber which gradually became more crowded as the rest of the students I couldn't see Hermione anywhere and ended up being squished by Crabbe and Goyle.

Professor McGonagall cleared her throat and said "Welcome to Hogwarts, the start-of-term banquet will begin shortly, but before you take your seats in the great hall, you will be sorted into your houses. The sorting ceremony is a very important ceremony because, whilst at Hogwarts your house will be your family. You will have classes with you house, sleep in the same dormitory and spend free time in your house common room. "

"The four houses are called Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Each house has its own noble history and each has produced outstanding witches and wizards. While you are at Hogwarts your successes will earn your house points, while any rule breaking will lose house points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the House Cup, a great honour. I hope each of you will be a credit to whichever house becomes yours." This is a lot to remember.

"The Sorting Ceremony will take place in a few minutes in front of the rest of the school. I suggest you all smarten yourselves up as much as you can while you're waiting, I shall return when we are ready for you, please wait quietly." and with that she left the chamber.

I felt a hand tug me out from between Crabbe and Goyle. Looking up to see a set of piercing blue eyes - it's the one and only Draco Malfoy.

"Here let me." He said softly while straightening my tie and robes then pushing me in the direction of Hermione who seemed to be talking about spells.

"Where have y-" I was interrupted by a bunch of screams causing both Hermionie and I to look around the room. About 20 ghosts had just waltzed through the back wall. Pearly-white and slightly transparent, they glided across the room talking to each other. They seemed to be arguing. What looked to be a fat monk was saying,

"Forgive and forget, I say we ought to give him a second chance-"

"My dear Friar, haven't we given Peeves all the chances he deserves? He gives us all a bad name and you know he's not really even a ghost - I say, what are you all doing here?" A ghost wearing a ruff and tights had suddenly noticed us all.

"New students!" said the Fat Friar smiling around at us. "About to be sorted I suppose?"

Me and Hermione nodded a little bit taken aback.

"Hope to see you in Hufflepuff!" said the friar " My old house you know"

A sharp voice could be heard " Move along now, The Sorting Ceremony is about to start."

One by one the ghosts floated away through the opposite wall.

"Now form a line," Professor McGonagall told us, "and follow me."

We all quickly walked into a line with Draco in front of me and Hermione behind me. We then slowly walked out of the chamber and I felt my heartbeat beat out of my chest as I felt many a pair of eyes on me walking into the Great Hall.
