Those coffee eyes
That opened up every night

Those strong arms
Wrapping me around
A protective stance

Your soft tone
Those fluffy curls

People aren't supposed to be homes
But why did I feel so comfortable with you?
Why did I settle with you?

The warmth put me in a trance
Made me get used to the cold
Gradually
Unconsciously

Until I realized
Home caught me on fire

You saved me from the streets
Shelter from the world
With blankets and snacks
How nice was that?

But what my brain realized
My heart hadn't caught on

With your lullabies and compliments
And every little gift

The warmth grew inside
The frost overcame my sides

You had planned it
Perfect execution

Of a rescued little mutt
Burnt by their own home
No ashes left
But Home got permanently stained
