Soniya walked in the room after a crisp knock. She was not surprised to see the room empty. It was a usual sight now a days.
The bed was neat, unused to be precise. But the person in question was nowhere to be found. Letting out a deep sigh, she walked to the windows and opened them to let the fresh air in. She opened all the doors and then left the room.
Veer was exhausting himself in the swimming pool. He was not able to understand the unstable emotional state that he was trying to hide from his family. He was distracted and could not focus on work. He had lost his appetite. All he wanted was to swim in the pool the entire day, exhausting himself.
Staying locked in his room was all he did except halting outside a bakery after his office hours. Buying a packet of cookies, he would stay in his car and his eyes would wander around in search of a white Audi. Disappointed, he would come back home with a foul mood. But he would try his best to keep a smile on his face, but the glint in his eyes was missing. He would nibble on his food in silence without much enthusiasm. Little Ishaan would demand sleeping with Veer, and Veer would wordlessly pick him up and walk to his room. Putting the boy under the soft warm comforter, he would pat him to sleep. There was a meeting with the supplier and Kabir was not happy with the numbers displayed on the screen. He was in a complete denial to extend the contract. He looked at Vihaan who shook his head discreetly in denial. Kabir then glanced at Veer. Veer was looking at the screen, but Kabir knew better. Veer had null contributions in the discussions. Finally, Kabir asked for some more time and the meeting was dismissed. Veer was quick to leave the meeting room and go back to his cabin to complete his pending work, so that he would be able to spend some more time in front of the bakery.
Veer heard a sharp knock. He looked up to find Kabir at the door. Kabir gave one of his rare smiles and walked in, taking a seat in front of the dark brown desk. Veer blinked as Kabir looked around making himself comfortable.
Kabir inviting himself in Veer's cabin meant, there was something up for deep discussions."So?" Kabir asked.
"What is it Bhai?" Veer asked confused.
"You are going to tell me or I should find out myself?" Kabir asked, tapping his long fingers on the desk.
"Tell you what?" Veer asked.
"Who is this girl you are thinking about?" Kabir bluntly came to the point.
Veer widened his eyes.
"That's...... That's not true Bhai. There's no girl." Veer fumbled.
"Okay. Agreed. Now tell me the truth." Kabir said, observing the crystal paper weight.
Veer sighed. He gulped audibly looking down. Kabir waited as he gave him some time to contemplate.
"How do you know?" Veer asked in a small voice.
Kabir chuckled.
"Your Bhabhi gave me a tough time. I am more experienced than Vihaan."Veer chuckled too. But the joy in his laugh was missing.
"Jokes apart. Tell me. Who is she?"
"Honestly, I don't know Bhai." Veer replied.
"What do you mean?" Kabir asked.
"I just saw her once. She vanished in the thin air. I don't know from where she came and where did she go. I wish I could know more about her."
Kabir frowned.
"Was she a spirit?" he asked."She took my spirit away Bhai." Veer said railing leisurely on the chair, looking away with dreamy eyes.
Shaking his head, Kabir asked, "tell me something at least."
"White Kurta with pink bottom, white flowing stole, she was wearing pointed heels. There was a pair of chains in her feet. Big honey colored eyes and a sharp pointed nose. Creamy flawless skin." Veer whispered focused on the wall behind Kabir and Kabir slapped his forehead.
Kabir looked at him amused.
"What next?""I want to marry her." Veer said maintaining the same posture.
"She is not already married. Are you sure of that?"
Veer sat up straight in a shot. His jaw dropped to the floor, eyes wide like saucers.
He did not remember if she was married or not. Even if she was not, there was a high possibility that she was committed. Dread filled his heart.Kabir laughed out loud and Veer was startled.
"You are impossible Veer." ruffling his hair, Kabir got up and left the cabin.
Veer huffed in annoyance and threw the pen holder on the closed door, from where Kabir left.
Vihaan was waiting in the cafeteria for his friend. Kabir walked in and settled himself opposite to Vihaan. Vihaan looked at him with anticipation and Kabir nodded in assurance. Vihaan let out a relived breath.
"But he doesn't know who she is." Kabir stated.
"What is that supposed to mean?" Vihaan asked.
"Love at first sight. He just saw her once, and knows nothing about her." Kabir explained.
"Not a problem. I will find her even if she is in any corner of the world. Wow... My brother grew up. He is in love Kabir." Vihaan said smiling.
"What if she is already committed, or married for that matter?" Kabir asked in a serious tone.
"What? He doesn't even know that? Dimwit!" Vihaan exclaimed looking away.
"We don't know that yet." Kabir said.
They needed some plan to reach the said girl. But there was just now no clue about the mysterious girl.
As always, Veer was lingering around the bakery. He was desperate for her one more glance.
He was in no mood to talk to anyone as Kabir was successful in planting a fear in his mind. He had no clue to get to the girl.
He looked ahead and noticed a familiar car, that was parked on the opposite road. He immediately knew Madhav was in the same vicinity. Bit he was in no mood to talk to Madhav and give in to his persistence of another dinner. Not to mention, he had lost his appetite. He went and silently got in the drivers seat, observing the surroundings.
Every now and then, he would glance at the rear view mirror, through which, Madhav's car was visible. It was for a moment that he was distracted and then again looked back at the rearview mirror. His heart skipped a beat as Madhav came out laughing from the hardware store. There was a someone with him.
It was the same girl. She was clinging on to Madhav's arm, laughing at whatever they were talking about. She let go of his arm, as they reached the car and Madhav opened the door to passenger seat for her. She settled herself and Madhav closed the door gently, jogging to the drivers seat and was quick to drive away.
This happened in a blink of seconds, as they seemed to be a hurry. Before Veer could think of catching up with them, they were gone with the speed of wind.
Leaving Veer with lot of questions behind.
