You yawned, practically dragging your tote bag along the ground as the air stayed as still and hot as ever. A couple trees towered off to the side, casting the littlest bits of shadow you could pass under. Not that it helped too much, but you'd take it.
It's been about four days since your discussion and taco dinner with Ink. In those four days, Harley had sadly reported she'd have to watch her sister's baby Friday and Saturday, so the girl's night out was cancelled. Instead you guys moved it to next Thursday. You couldn't say you weren't disappointed, what with everything going on right now. It would have been nice to get a break from all the weird crap you were going through.
Actually, you'd seen a little less of Ink after a couple days. He said he was busy trying to figure out how to contact his friends from the underground. He also happened to somehow get a bunch of black ink on your white T-Shirt he had be been borrowing. Sadly, the whole front side of your old shirt was now stained black. To top it off, you didn't even know how the hell Ink managed to do that.
Snorting, you shook your head as you remembered the look on his face when you caught him trying to throw the shirt away before you could see.
Lifting your head up from staring at the ground, you frowned as you caught sight of your house. Not that you didn't want to see your house or anything, it was a humongous relief, but- there was a black truck pulled up into it's driveway.
Immediately, your mind flashed back to Ink. Who was at your house? What did Ink do? He didn't come out of the house, right? Was it the FBI? Was it some goopy black boogyman? You doubted it could be the latter, but all things were possible right now.
Gripping your tote bag, you quickened your pace, eyes set on the new threat in the driveway of your home. Your heart was racing at the suspense, but eventually you found yourself wandering towards your house through the front yard. The long grass brushed against your ankles as you narrowed your eyes at the sleek black paint of the truck, the sun glistening on it's metal. Your gaze slowly roamed towards the front door, only to rest on a tall figure lounging on one of the chairs on the porch. They seemingly had their phone out, and was lazily scrolling through it.
Frowning, you jogged towards them, brushing your messy hair from your face. "Hello?" You called. "Is there something you need?"
The figure jumped at the sound of your voice, their head turning towards you. You blinked at the dark hair falling into their bright eyes, the person quickly standing. They were surprisingly tall, and you watched as they shoved the phone into their back jean pockets. A smile stretched itself across his face, and you were immediately taken aback at the familiarity.
"(Y/N)!" He shouted, waving his arms frantically around. "I'm hooooooooome!!"
You gaped as the dude jumped over the railing of the porch, racing towards you. Quickly tossing your tote bag to the side, you spread your arms open, a grin spreading itself across your face. The guy, or your cousin to be more precise, bent down as he neared you, scooping you up in a big hug. You grinned madly as you returned the hug, your cousin squeezing you a little too hard.
"Nix, I thought you had to head out of town for work!" You exclaimed as he let go of you. Pulling away, he gave you a goofy grin as he shrugged. "I made it work- so for my vacation I'll be staying back in my home town!" He said, spreading his arms out in special effect.
You narrowed your eyes up at him, raising a brow. "Did you grow or something? I don't remember you being this tall-" You murmured thoughtfully.
Nix laughed, rustling your hair. "Yuuuuup- Weston had me actually eat that healthy crap for once."
You snorted, batting his hand away before you began trying to pay your hair down. "About time."
