You've been acting weird." Nix muttered.
You looked up from your plate to peer at your cousin from across the table, giving him a weird look. His narrowed, steady gaze told you the story of suspicion he had going on in his head. Maybe it had been your quick movement to act when he told you he'd be staying, or maybe it had been the way you fixed a third plate and nonchalantly wandered off into the hallway, you couldn't exactly know. However, you were determined to play it off.
"Oh? I mean, a lot has changed since you've been here after all." Forcing a light laugh, you moved to spear another biscuit with the fork dangling from your hand, readying yourself to stuff it in your mouth. Nix gave a small, simple nod in reply though you knew instantly that he didn't believe a damn thing you said. Your lawn still hadn't been mowed, The Coffee Shop was still the only place you ever ventured to, the house still smelt like burnt vanilla, and everything in between. Your life was as plain and unbearable as before.
Well, excluding the exception of a certain magical skeleton hung up in your attic.
As silence soon ensued, you found the situation increasingly awkward. Nix was suspiciously quiet, scarfing down his food and quickly moving to get more, but other than that it was the same ol' cousin you've had around for years. As you finished up, you tapped your fork needlessly against your plate, staring down at the remains of your dinner. Nix was still stuffing food in his mouth. With a silent sigh, you picked your phone up from where it had been resting on the table's surface, turning it on and narrowing your eyes at the time. It had been maybe two hours since you'd last seen Ink. If you were bored, you could only imagine how the skeleton would be doing up in a dusty old attic.
"... something on your mind? You've got that look on your face again." Nix blurted, looking up from his plate. You paused, dragging your eyes off of your phone as your mind was thrown back into your current situation, momentarily forgetting about Ink. "Eh? Oh- yeah... I'm just really tired. I'll be heading to be dearly tonight." You stated bluntly, pushing yourself up from your chair. Nix watched you carefully as you threw your plate and fork in the sink, stuffing your phone back into your pocket.
Ambling out of the room, you gave him one last stern look. "There are blankets already on the couch for you, you know the drill. If you eat any of the good snacks I will personally make your stay here a living hell. Oh- and don't wake me up." You added. Nix gave you a quick nod and grin, wishing you goodnight before you wandered off towards your room.
With a loud sigh, you slowly opened the door, stepping into the familiarly small and dark space. Tugging at your shirt, you prepared to pull it over your head as you flicked the light switch on. Closing the door behind yourself, you let your mind wander. You had your shirt halfway off, stomach bare, when you finally noticed the frozen figure standing in the corner of your room.
" . . . " After a moment of silence, a shriek ripped itself from your mouth as you rapidly pulled your shirt back over yourself. "INK!!" You screamed, grabbing a book from the nearby dresser to throw violently at him. The skeleton yelped, quickly ducking to avoid the object as it crashed into the wall. He bounced back onto his feet, holding his hands up in a universal sign of peace as sweat beaded his skull.
"Woah, hey pal lets back it up a bit!" Ink mumbled nervously. You fumed, balling your hands into fists as adrenaline pumped through your veins. You had felt your life flash before your eyes, and now that the aftermath was over with, you were furious he had scared you like that. "What the hell are you doing in my room!?" You demanded, glaring daggers. He gave a large shrug, nonexistent brows drawing together as he offered a tight smile. "Eheheh?" Was the only thing that managed to leave his mouth.
