Sonadow: Night Falls

Chapter Six

Sonic, Chip, and Shadow came across what seemed to be a ritual site in where a person was lying down beside a yellow gem. Concerned for the person's safety, the three went to investigate. As Sonic approached, a giant bird resembling a Phoenix flew overhead. It circled the area and landed on a pedestal, unleashing a battle cry.

Sonic began to fight and threw objects filled with light at the Phoenix to chase it away. He also repeatedly clawed the thing in the face. Shadow watched in absolute horror, terrified that Sonic was going to hurt himself. After defeating the Phoenix, Sonic rushed to the person.

"Are you okay?" Sonic asked.

"Yes, thank you." The old man replied. Chip looked at the yellow gem. It had what looked like a golden dragon wrapped around it. He picked it up and a bright light shone, opening the door to what appeared to be a temple.

Sonic, Chip, and Sonic made their way into the temple. Sonic felt a sharp pinch in his stomach and faltered for a second. Shadow held Sonic's hand.

"Shadow, let go. It was a kick."

Shadow didn't let go. He held the large werehog's hand and continued onward. Shadow was worried about Sonic. He wasn't acting normal and he seemed totally unconcerned about the lives of their pups. Shadow knew that Sonic was capable of protecting the pups, but he wasn't allowing Shadow to help in that case. That drove Shadow crazy!

Sonic and Chip worked together to bring life back to the red Chaos Emerald. The whole planet shook as another piece moved back into place. Sonic sighed deeply, but serenely. At least the planet would be restored. He then looked up.

"Shadow! The door's closing!"

Shadow looked back at the door. It was indeed closing. He grabbed Sonic's hand and they ran out of the temple, closely followed by Chip. Sonic panted heavily, resting against Shadow, strategically not pressing his weight onto the hedgehog. Sonic then regained his composure and used his stretchy arms to swing him and Shadow to safety. Somehow, Chip had gotten in front of them and Sonic bumped right into him. Sonic grabbed Chip and practically threw him over his shoulder. Sonic looked up and saw that the Phoenix had returned! But, it looked different somehow. However, Sonic wasn't about to let his guard down.

"The moment the temple lit up, the beast woke up." The old man they had rescued said. "It appears he's come back to his senses."

"I see." Sonic said and approached the beast. "I'll bet your job is to guard the Chaos Emerald temple." Chip flew forward and hit Sonic on the head. Sonic swatted him aside, annoyed. "You must have gone berserk when the emeralds lost their power." Shadow stayed close to Sonic, ready to protect him at any moment. The Phoenix cawed. Chip was floating before it.

"I'm glad you're back!" He gleefully cried. Then, "Want some chocolate?" Much to the two hedgies' surprise, the bird accepted the chocolate and went back to sleep.

"Well, that was weird." Sonic said.

"A little too weird." Shadow agreed, wrapping his arms around Sonic. Sonic smiled and snuggled into the hug. He relaxed into Shadow's embrace and purred. Still, something seemed off and Shadow knew it had something to do with the pups. He knew something sinister was definitely going to happen soon.

Ah! Finally! One year later and I'm finally back! I'm so sorry this took as long as it has. Don't worry all who have read the story, I haven't forgotten about this and I'm back to finish what I started. So good to be back.
