Sonadow: Night Falls

Chapter Eight

Tails was once again helping out the hedgehogs and Chip by flying them to their next destination where they sky dived off the plane. Shadow held Sonic close in free-fall, determined to make sure he didn't hurt himself. Sonic twisted himself out of Shadow's grasp and landed on his feet while Shadow didn't have as much luck and landed on his butt. Sonic giggled and helped Shadow up.

"Watch out for your tush, Shads. You're gonna need that later."

Shadow rolled his eyes as Sonic laughed. "Not as much as you'll need yours."

Chip landed close to the way Sonic had and began to fly as Sonic hooked his arm in Shadow's as they began to walk toward a strange carnival area. Suddenly, they heard laughter. Eggman's laughter.

"Welcome to Eggmanland, the brainchild of my heart and soul!" His voice came over on the loudspeakers. A giant statue of Sonic's enemy rose up from the ground and Shadow snarled at it, holding his arm in front of Sonic, protecting him from all harm. "This is my magnificent empire, made possible through my genius and the limitless energy harnessed from Dark Gaia!" Sonic stared at the statue in annoyance.

"Wha- Whoa. This place is crazy!" Chip said, gazing at the huge statue. He fell over on his butt. Sonic shook his head.

"I'll never understand Eggman's tastes." He leaned on Shadow slightly. "They're disgusting." Chip whipped out a camera and snapped a picture of the statue.

"Get a good shot!" He said and handed Sonic the camera. Sonic snapped a picture of Chip in front of the statue as Eggman's voice came over the loudspeaker again.

"Surprised? Yes, of course you are! Sonic!" The blue hedgehog stiffened, raised his quills defensively, and snapped to attention at his name. "If you have any complaints, come deliver them to me in person. If you can that is!" A series of laughs, and very distressed coughs followed after as Sonic nervously handed the camera back to Chip and started walking to the entrance.

"He's enjoying this way too much." He flinched as one of the pups violently kicked him. "Gosh, calm down Dash, I get it." He rubbed his belly before he heard Chip call his name. He was on top of the Eggman statue, taking pictures of the park.

"I can feel the last temple nearby!" Chip called, pausing from taking pictures. "He must have built this place on top of it!"

"Well, I guess we'll just have to tear it down." Sonic said with a chuckle.

"You're not doing anything." Shadow said to Sonic, surprising him. "You're staying here, where it's safe."

"Shadow, it's an amusement park. Lighten up! We'll have fun tearing this stink-hole down! I'll show you. Chip! We're going in!" And just like two kids, Sonic and Chip ran into Eggmanland as if it was indeed an amusement park for the public to enjoy. Shadow shook his head and followed them in.

Night had long fallen and the three were making their way to the inner chamber of the temple. Sonic was panting by the time they got to the pedestal.

"Man, I didn't know running could be so tiring." Sonic panted out. Sonic handed the emerald to Shadow. He placed it into the hole on the pedestal and watched as the gray color returned to it.

"The final Chaos Emerald, back at last!" Chip exclaimed. Shadow picked it up and gave it back to Sonic for safekeeping. The temple began to shake, making Shadow protectively embrace the fluffy werehog. The last piece of the planet moved back into place.

"Let's get outta here." Shadow said as the shaking stopped. Sonic nodded and took Shadow's hand.

"This should put the world back to normal." Chip sighed happily once outside the temple. "Dark Gaia will go back to being sealed within the core and my work will be done."
