Sonic and his new friend were walking through the gates to the town talking about what had just happened. Sonic juggled two of the colorless emeralds as he thought aloud, "What do you figure that was all about? The hair, and those arms, and. . .and look at the Chaos Emeralds." Suddenly a voice called Sonic's name. Sonic looked up and saw Shadow. Sonic ran to him and hugged him tight.

"Oh, Sonic! I'm so glad you're safe! Are you hurt? What about the babies?" Shadow checked Sonic over.

"Shadow, relax, we're fine."

Shadow kissed Sonic. When he opened his eyes again, he noticed the chihuahua.

"Who's this?"

"Oh," Sonic replied, glancing at the creature, "He's my new friend, but he doesn't remember his name." Shadow wrapped his arm around Sonic as he continued walking with the creature flying beside him.

"So," the flying thing began, "Is this what you usually look like?"

"Yeah," Sonic replied, "This is the real me."

"What are you two talking about?" Shadow asked, "You've always looked like that."

"Not when I--"

Sonic covered the flying thing's mouth. He didn't want Shadow to know what had happened to him. Shadow cuddled Sonic close, but noticed that he wasn't acting normal.

"Hey," Shadow got Sonic's attention, "Are you sure everything's fine?"

"Yeah, I'm sure." He looked around, "Hey! Where did you go little guy?" He saw the creature at an ice cream concession stand. He watched as the man was making a delicious ice cream cone.

"Looks good, don't it? That there Chocolate Chipped Cream Sundae Supreme is the pride of the city! The whole world can come tumbling down, but they'll still line up for a taste!" The creature paid no attention to Sonic, who was impatiently calling to him from about two feet away.

"Hey! What about your memories?!"

"Chocolate chip. . .sundae. . .supreeeeme!" the creature repeated the name of the frozen desert as he reached for it. The man picked it up and replied, "You said it! Enjoy it, kiddo. Satisfaction guaranteed! If you don't love it, you get your money back!" Sonic again called, "HEY!" The chihuahua ignored him and replied to the man, "I looooove it!"

Eventually, Sonic was egged into getting an ice cream too and he, Shadow, and the flying chihuahua continued through town.

"Wow!" the creature said, "This chip-whatever stuff is great!"

"If you say so. . ." Sonic replied, a little irritated by the creature's short attention span. Shadow wrapped his arm around Sonic. "How about you give me a hand and help look for somebody who knows you, Chip?" The creature stopped dead in his tracks and repeated, "Chip?" Sonic turned to him.

"Gotta call you something, don't I? Whaddya think?"

"Yeah!" the creature replied, "Chip. . .Chip! I love it!" Sonic slightly rolled his eyes as the creature flew in a circle.

"Now what do you say we start asking around and see if anybody here knows you?"

"Okay!" Chip replied.

Sonic, Shadow, and Chip spent the rest of the day in the city, asking if anybody knew who Chip was. Nobody seemed to know anything. Sonic began to get anxious as the night crept closer and closer. Shadow wrapped his arm around Sonic.

"What's wrong love?" Shadow asked him.

"Nothing," Sonic replied, "Just a little tired."

Shadow knew that something was up, he just didn't know what it was yet. Sonic cuddled close to Shadow and hoped that when night came, he'd still be his cute cuddly self and what had happened the night before was just a bad dream.
