Rafe's hands wrapped tightly around my waist as I tried positioning my club correctly behind the golf ball. His hands then turned me slightly to the right and then he nodded in approval and let go of me. I hit the ball perfectly, making good distance and I turned around excitedly, wrapping Rafe in a big hug. He hugged me back, his arms wrapped around my waist tightly and then he pulled away to look in my eyes. Suddenly his gaze flicked down to my lips and stayed there before he started leaning in-
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
I sit up quickly, looking around anxiously for a pair of blue eyes, but calm down and slump against my headboard when I never see them. I reach over and turn off my alarm clock before standing up and walking into my bathroom.
I look into the mirror and sigh, staring at my disheveled reflection in the mirror. My golden hair was sticking up in different directions and the purple shadows were rather noticable underneath my green eyes. I barely got any sleep last night thinking about Rafe. I don't even know why I can't stop thinking about him. I should be forgetting his existence altogether but I can't get him out of my head. He seemed so sweet. It's just hard for me to believe he was just being nice to me to get me to sleep with him.
I take a shower and get changed into a white crop top and jean shorts and stand in front of my vanity, considering doing my makeup to cover up the fact I look like crap. In the end I decide I'm too lazy and walk downstairs.
Once I reach the bottom of the stairs I hear the sound of male voices from the living room.
Ugh. Great.
Topper's friends are here. He wants me to stay away from Rafe yet he invites him over to our house? I don't understand this guy sometimes.
I walk into the kitchen quietly, not wanting them to be aware I was awake yet. I get myself a bowl of cereal and consider eating in the dining room but then I realize that would mean one of my cousin's friends might walk in... Well, Rafe might walk in.
As I make my way to the stairs I notice that it has gotten considerably quiet. Halfway up the staircase I hear Topper's voice call me over.
"Hey Claire. I didn't know you were up yet. What are you doing?"
I look behind him to see Kelce staring down at his phone and Rafe leaning against the wall smirking at me. I roll my eyes at him and look back at Topper.
"Eating breakfast in my room." I reply, holding up my cereal bowl for him to see.
"Come eat down here at the table." He offers, waving his hand, signalling for me to come down the stairs. "I was just about to make some breakfast for Kelce, Rafe, and me. You can eat with us."
I look at him questioningly, replaying in my head what he said yesterday to me about staying away from Rafe Cameron. Is he trying to get me to disrespect his wishes?
"Okay?" I say, more as a question than an answer.
I walk down the stairs slowly, following Topper. Once I make it to the bottom Rafe moves from his place on the wall to walk directly beside me on our way to the kitchen.
"So how are you?" Rafe asks innocently, smiling down at me.
I keep my gaze away from his eyes and look forward while answering, "I'm fine."
"Hm." Is all he says back as we enter the kitchen. I sit down at the dining room table, directly across from where Kelce has taken a seat on the other end. Of course, Rafe sits in the chair right beside me and watches me as I eat.
I try to ignore his gaze on my face, but people watching me eat makes me uncomfortable and I turn away from him, putting my spoon back in the bowl.
"Are you alright?" He asks as Kelce stands up and walks into the kitchen to help Topper with whatever he is cooking.
"Yeah. I'm just a little tired. Didn't get much sleep last night." I reply back, trying to sound bored, hoping he would give up trying to talk to me.
"Are you angry with me?" He suddenly asks, looking at me with genuine confusion on his face like he did nothing wrong.
I scoff and look away from him, rolling my eyes.
"What?" He asks, confusion laced in his voice.
I sigh. Might as well just tell him the truth about what Topper told me that way he leaves me alone. "Topper told me about you, okay? I know you aren't just being nice because you can. You just want to sleep with me."
He was silent for a second after this and then he says, "Well are you interested."
I stare at him in disbelief. He stares back with a straight expression. He's actually serious...
I laugh humorlessly. "You're kidding, right?"
He smiles back at me. "Nope, this is the most serious I've ever been."
I can't believe him. After hearing this at least now I know Topper's warning is true and I won't have as hard a time following it now. I have a really strong urge to smack him in the face.
"No!" I say suddenly, standing up. It is a little louder than I mean for it to be and I look over at Topper but he seems to be very focused on what he is cooking. "Of course I'm not interested." I say, quieter this time.
"Well why not?" Rafe asks, genuinely confused again.
"Because I have morals." I reply, glaring at him. "Unlike you."
He scoffs. "I have morals."
"No you don't. You sleep around with random girls all the time. No morals there. You're just heartless and enjoy playing with girls and using them like toys, like they're worth nothing."
He glares back at me now. "You know nothing about me!" He yells, a little too loud. I look over at Topper, but again, nothing. What is that dude doing that's so interesting?
I look back at Rafe and cross my arms over my chest. "Find another toy. I'm not interested."
He rolls his eyes. "Yeah, well we'll see how long that lasts."
I glare even harder at him. "What does that mean?"
"It means," he says with a smug look on his face. "You won't last long. I'm irresistible. You will come crawling back to me like every other whore that tried to resist me."
I feel tears prick at the corner of my eyes when he says this to me. I'm so incredibly infuriated with him. He really is just another douchey teenage boy. I open my mouth to defend myself because he has no right to speak to me this way, but suddenly Topper walks over with the food. He hands a plate to Rafe and sets his and Kelce's plates on the other side of the table before sitting down.
"What were you two talking about?" Topper asks, probably noticing the angry flush on my cheeks from arguing with Rafe.
"Nothing." I reply, scowling at Rafe who just smirks and looks down at his food.
Topper looks between the two of us questioningly but then obviously hunger takes over curiosity and he digs into his food.
After a couple minutes of everyone eating in silence, Topper looks at Rafe and asks, "Did you tell her about later?"
I look between Topper and Rafe, confused, and raise my eyebrows at Topper.
"No." Rafe replies, meeting my gaze and then Topper's. "You tell her."
"Well," Topper says, putting down his silverware and setting his attention on me. "There's a party tonight and you're coming. No arguing me on this. You have been confined to your room ever since you've been here and you need to get out." He says with a 'don't argue with me on this' look on his face.
I sigh. "Fine."
I look over to see Rafe staring at me mischievously.
Great. Who knows what will happen tonight.
