I shut the door behind me, taking a deep breath. It is so hard to hate him. Why can't he go back to being like every other douchebag kook boy. He was so pleasant tonight it was almost unsettling.
Instead of giving myself a headache from thinking about it any longer I go upstairs and take a shower. Afterwards I lay down on my bed and reach to my nightstand for my phone.
When I find myself grabbing at the air I finally sit up and look. My phone isn't there. I quickly go and check the bathroom but it isn't in there either. Just great. I probably left my phone in Rafe's car.
I go downstairs and grab my keys before heading to Rafe's house.
Once I get there I approach the door nervously, praying that it's Rafe who answers it. I know I won't be able to get out of telling Sarah about us hanging out if she's the one who answers and Rafe's parents are super intimidating and I'd rather not explain to them why I'm here.
Instead of meditating on it for too long and chickening out I raise my hand to the door and knock three times before taking a step back.
After a couple seconds the door opens and Wheezie stands in front of me, raising her eyebrows at me questioningly. Oh yeah, I kind of forgot they had a little sister.
"It's late, what do you want?" Wheezie asks impatiently.
"Um. I need to speak to Rafe really quick." I reply, hoping she won't pry for more details.
"What for?" She asks, doing the exact opposite of what I was hoping.
"He actually has something of mine that I need back." I suddenly realize how bad that sounds for Rafe and then add, "It was my fault. I forgot it in his car."
"Why were you in Rafe's car?" She asks, looking me up and down suspiciously. I know she is a child but I am extremely close to hitting her. I don't like when people ask me questions.
"I needed a ride somewhere." I lie, hoping that will satisfy her curiosity enough to let me in.
She narrows her eyes at me like she doesn't really believe me, but backs up and gestures for me to come in anyway.
"He's upstairs in his room. Third door on the left." She says, shutting the door and then walking away from me.
I go up the stairs and stop in front of what she told me was Rafe's door.
I knock and when I don't get an answer I knock again. After a second time with no answer I open the door and immediately regret it.
Rafe is shirtless on top of a girl, making out with her intensely. He doesn't seem to notice me as he dips his head down kissing her kneck and slipping his hand under her shirt.
"Oh my-" I say, but don't let myself finish before I'm shutting the door and running down the stairs two at a time. I hear a door open and shut and I am sure it's him but I don't stop moving until I'm all the way to my car. Just as I'm about to open the door I feel a hand grab my arm.
"Claire? What are you doing here?" Rafe asks, panting slightly from chasing me all the way out here. I notice he's still shirtless and I know he must be cold based on the way fog appears from each breath we take.
"I- um- I'm sorry. I left my phone in your car and I needed it back." I tell him, refusing to meet his eyes.
"Oh okay." He says, running inside to grab his keys. He unlocks his truck for me and I quickly reach in and grab my phone from the dashboard where it was sitting.
"Okay. Thank you." I say quickly, before turning to walk back to my car. I feel his hand grab my arm to stop me again. I swear if this boy grabs my arm one more time-
