Red strings are strung everywhere, Not every person can see the string. I learned at a young age that everyone had a soulmate, I on the other hand did not have one. When I was younger I would ask my parents about the red strings attached to their fingers and they would just tell me that it was some myth that and that they weren't real. I believed that it was a myth and just ignored the fact that most couples had their strings attached and my parents Weren't. Last year convinced me that the strings were destiny and were not a myth, My mother and father divorced after she got a new job and started hanging out with a coworker. So I now live with my mother and my step-father, my dad was cut out of the picture once he moved to a different country. I'll be starting high school today, a whole new school with new people.

~Time skip~

I walk into the classroom filled with people and scanned the people, no one I know. I find an empty seat in the back of the room and set my bag down claiming a seat. I fold my arms on my desk and lay my head down waiting for class to start, completely ignoring the idea of making friends. A paper airplane is thrown across the room and lands right in from of me so I grab it and look at it, the folds were perfect and the paper was the durable kind. A hand snatches the plane from me as the person walks around the desk to sit next to me, I sit up instantly to turn to the person. He had purple hair, purple eyes, and a mischievous grin plastered on his face.

"So, why are you sitting alone?" The boy asks

I look him up and down and then trail my eyes back towards his hands, a habit I have developed. To my surprise, there was no string. He looked at his hand and then back at me.

"hey? I'm talking to you!" he whines

"Oh, what did you say? I'm sorry, I wasn't paying attention," I apologize

"Nevermind, what's your name?" He asks

"I'm Y/n L/n, and you are?" I respond

"I'm Kokichi Oma and-" he starts

"Kokichi, you aren't bothering her are you?" A boy walks up and asks

"Oh no, he's not bothering me," I say

I look up at the boy, he had dark blue hair and looked like the shy type. I looked at the string on his hand and trailed my eyes across the room to where the string met with a blonde girl's hand. the boy walked off towards the girl and they intertwined hands. (I honestly hate this ship but it'll have to do for now.) Kokich eyes trailed over to their hands as well and then turned to me.

"You see it to don't you?" Kokichi asks

"What do you mean?" I ask

I refuse to look up at him and just scan everyone's hands and try to connect the people.

"The string, you see it too don't you?" He asks again

"Oh, yeah I do..." I say quietly

"Hm? you got quiet there. Anyway, since we don't have strings we aren't limited with who we fall in love with," kokichi says

"That's a bit random but I guess your right, but in the end, the person we love will end up with their soulmate eventually," I say

"Not if they don't have a string either,"

I look at him and he seems to have a somewhat genuine smile on his face, for some reason my face heats up slightly. Kokichi reaches and grabs your hand and slowly intertwines your fingers with him, you don't pull away but just close your hand against his.

"Hm, maybe someday people without strings will have someone to love too," I say

"Maybe, but there's only one way to find out," he replies

"So, I guess you're my friend now so..." I ask nervously "Do you want to come to my house after school, we could get to know each other better,"

"Hmm, not a bad idea but I say we should go to the park and get ice cream." He says

"Sounds like fun,"

"Then it's a date," he says excitedly

I nod my head in agreement as the teacher walks in and introduces himself. I may not have a soulmate but I think I'm going to like this new friend of mine.
