The morning after was awkward as hell.
Audrey had to be up early and was complaining about a massive headache and why nobody stopped her. She wasn't the only one, Liam was complaining as well just not as much as Audrey. They packed their bags, I went into the kitchen since I hardly got much sleep and got her some medication for the headaches and a couple of pizza slices. Calum walked in while I waited for the pizza to heat up, we locked eyes and I quickly broke it. He looked tired which did not surprise me due to him having to carry two drunk people into the apartment and maybe stressing over something, I thought about the argument and my stomach turned a little thinking that maybe he regretted what he said, I know I did."I was going too until you guys ever so kindly decided to add me into Lynette's vision, night ruined."
He did not have to say that. Lynette having a vision about someone potentially bad coming after me was terrifying but I had no control over it.
"What the hell is your problem?"
"You! You are my problem," he almost shouts.
I closed eyes, I wanted to cry.
"What the hell did I ever do to you?" I ask raising my voice now.
"Oh my god, do you ever shut up?" He shouts.
"Oh fuck you!"
Calum looked away shaking his head.
"What? Come on Calum, I know there is more you wanna say, so just say it."
He looks back at me.
"Is it because I'm spending two weeks at your hometown? Is it because I unwillingly dropped into your world? Are you pissed Sam saved me? What is it?"
He looked surprised at my choice of questions but I honestly did not care anymore, I was over the brooding act.
"I have done nothing to you Calum, literally nothing and you act like some sort of psycho."The fight replayed in my head for what felt like the hundredth time, I felt a tear escape my eye and I quickly wipe it not wanting Calum to notice, the microwave dinged and I pulled out the plate. I walked past Calum without a word and heading back to my side of the apartment.
The tension grow more so when Lynette, Audrey and Liam left with David to start their mission, I had no one to talk too about last night. I stayed in my room under the covers of my blankets, I could hear Sam calling out to me, he wasn't allowed on this side of the apartment so when I heard footsteps approaching, I never thought Sam would be the one to break the rules, I quickly move the blanket from my face and closed my eyes. Thanks to Shawn, I knew how to fake being asleep when needed, my door opened.
"Abby?" Sam calls out in a whisper. "Abby?"
"Is she sleeping?" Calum was there too.
"I think so, she isn't responding."
"Go check!"
"Why me?"
"Because if she is asleep and wakes up and sees me, she'll freak but she likes you," there was a hint of something in his voice that I couldn't make out, I pushed the thought away and focused on my breathing, keep it even. There was no noise, I thought for a second that they may have left until I heard a whisper just by my bed.
"She's asleep," Sam confirms.
"Okay, now back away slowly."
"No shit," Sam whispers back. This time, I could hear him moving out of my room and I opened my eyes the second the bedroom door shut.
Did Calum inform Sam of our little argument last night? If so, it may have explained why they came over here, maybe Sam wanted us to sit down and have a friendly chat which probably involved an apologise mixed in the middle, I mean, yeah I felt guilty about what I said and regretted it but I sure as hell I was not going to apologise first and knowing Calum, he wasn't either.
I crept out of bed and pressed my ear against the door, it seemed to be very quiet outside my door, I quietly opened it and peered out, no one was there. Voices were coming from the main room, the hallway was dark so I decided to step out closing my door and sat on the steps to eavesdrop on what was being said.
"I think we should tell her," that was Sam speaking. "She's apart of the team now and there is not doubt that she'll find out anyway."
"Ben and Liam don't know about it though," that was Calum. "What makes her so special to be told this?"
I tried to breathe quieter not wanting to miss anything they were saying, they were talking about me that part was clear but this secret, was it about the rumours Audrey mentioned?
"Because she is staying with us for two weeks. You know we'll bump into Tyler and his gang," Sam says. "You know they'll brag about it."
"Then starts the never-ending questions," sarcastically said by Calum, god I wanted to slap him.
"Be nice."
"Why did you have to invite her though?" Calum groans.
"I'm not leaving her here alone over the two week break. Ben is going back home so who will she hang out with?"
A moment of silence.
"I don't understand what's happening," Calum groans. "I'm all over the place."
"What do you mean mate?"
"That's the point, I don't know what I mean Sam. I am supposed to be keeping my distance and for some reason, I feel like I can't with her. What makes it worse is that she wants to be my friend."
"Do you want to be her friend?"
"Yes. No. Argh, I don't know... she called me a psycho last night so maybe I've ruined any chances of that friendship blooming."
No, it didn't, I found myself thinking. No! Abigail, we're angry at him. Don't go feeling sorry for the jerk.
"Well, do you think we should start off with telling her your secret?"
A couple of seconds of silence. "Maybe... but only if she is willingly to exchange a secret for a secret."
"What do you mean?"
Calum dives into the story of what happened in the library yesterday, I had totally forgotten that that had happened.
"What does that even mean?" Sam asks.
"Not sure but I think there is more to this story."
"Reckon she knows?"
Calum snorts. "I don't think so, she asks a million questions."
"Hm... well Calum, I can't exactly help you bro. This is your secret and if you decide to tell her, I'll be there as support."
"What if after what happened last night, she decides not to go?"
"That's her choice then."A door opens and the conversation stopped instantly and Ben emerges from the other side, I quickly duck back down.
"Oh, hey," Ben says.
"Sup," Sam answers, Calum didn't.
"I'm leaving in ten minutes but bro, I haven't packed yet."
"So go pack," Calum says.
"Did I interrupt something?"
"No" Calum says at the same time Sam says "yes".
I peeked over, Ben stared at the two of them. "Okay, I don't really care. I'm gonna take a slice of pizza and start packing."
I sat on the step for a couple of minutes debating on what I should do. I was not particularly fond of the idea of staying here over the two week break and I would feel a lot safer with them after Lynette's vision or I could just stay in bed. The smell of pizza heating up got my stomach making weird whale noises, so I stood up and walked up the stairs rubbing my eyes pretending that I had just woken up. Sam jumps up.
"Oh hey Abby!"
"Mmm," I walked past them heading into the kitchen.
"You look terrible," Ben comments.
"So does your face," I retort.
"Ouch, someone's feisty this morning."
"Just get your pizza out of the microwave so I can heat mine up."
"Okay, my excuse is a massive hangover - you aren't old enough to drink so what's your problem? PMS-ing?"
"Regardless if I was or wasn't, that is no business of yours. Shut the fuck up and get out of my way," I push past him to get a plate. The microwave dings. Ben takes his food out muttering something I couldn't hear. I put two pizza slices on the plate and put it into the microwave waiting for it to heat up, I turn around wanting to go to the fridge to get a bottle of water when I locked eyes with Sam and Calum.
"What?" I asked annoyed.
"Nothing," they both say at the same time.
I took a bottle of water out of the fridge and drank it greedily waiting for the pizza to just hurry up.
"So... you still keen to spend the break with us?" Sam asks.
"Sure, what made you think I wasn't going?" I ask turning around, just watching them avoiding my eye was a little entertaining.
"No reason," Sam sounded so guilty.
"Uh-huh," I stifle a smile and took the pizza out when the microwave dinged. "I'm still quite tired from last night so I'm just gonna take this and go."
"Sure," Sam mutters.
"See you later," I felt their gazes burning into my back, I let out a breath of relief that the first step was over, as little as it was, it was still a step, the bigger one is still to come.
