A rumour has it.

The food was horrendous. After waking up and making myself look presentable, I made my way towards the Hall.

The office lady brought over my timetable earlier that morning and two students, whom I met in the hall told me where dinner would take place. They offered to take me there, and me being the really hungry person I was, I agreed.

The walk towards the Hall was tiring. There were way too many stairs we had to go down and there was this awkward silence surrounding us the whole way down. Why did I agree again?

Damian -one of the other students- started talking about some Geography teacher being old and lazy, to break the silence. When the other, whose name I forgot, started to engage with the conversation, I tuned them all out.

Arriving at the Hall, there were 3 long mahogany tables. All of them were filled with a ton of 'delicacies'. As soon as I, Damian and his mate sat down, I began to grab all the food that looked eatable.

Of course, I keep my table manners, but a few others across from me did not. A terrible sight honestly, I lost all my appetite. Did their parents not teach them how to properly behave?

Lessons would begin tomorrow, so there were still quite a few students arriving to their assigned dorms. Even from the Hall you could hear cars parking and parents saying their goodbyes to their beloved children. Quite sappy if you ask me.

The two guys went towards the front gates, saying they were going to welcome one of their friends who had just arrived. And so I was left eating the badly marinated chicken in the middle of the Hall, in my very lonesome.

Some younger kids- 8th or 9th year, maybe- were conversing loudly at the end of my table. A few were talking about the food when another kid stormed in. He had short, curly brown hair, was about 150 centimetres short, and had a slightly crooked nose. About half my table looked up. Seeing him walk towards the other kids, whom I, by then, had nicknamed the BLLL: 'the braincell-less loud lot' out of boredom.

"Oi, did you guys hear the rumours? Apparently he's back. His mumsey just dropped him off."

"Oh, hey James! Who are you talking about?" the ginger headed girl with two pigtails asked with a bright smile.

"Honestly Lily, are you ever up to date? He is back, I just saw him step out of that green car with his mum." The one called James rambled.

There were a few gasps at the table. Another guy perked up, "Really, are you sure? There is no way he could be here, after last year. He would be out of his mind to come back."

"Positive. But..." His head tilted to the left, as if he was questioning if he should continue his sentence or not.

"What is it, James. Spit it out already, I'm curious!", the ginger- Lily said.

"Well, is he not. I don't know, scared? After what they did to him last year, I know sure as hell I wouldn't come back."

From the corner of my eye I could see the boy shiver. I would be lying if I said I wasn't interested- after all, who doesn't like a good rumour and some trouble?

Here is a golden tip dear reader, if you want to know something, don't ask. Instead, wait for the information to come to you. Maybe you can find a way to gain their trust, and then you just wait until someone tells you. I remember father telling me when he was working on a project at the company that it makes you look less suspicious.

"If you want to know what competitors are doing, do not ask. Find out another way, and if their concept is good, find a way to produce and release the product before they do," he said.

So I waited, till the rumours spread to me.

When I was done dining, I went upstairs- to the Solar Tower.

Damian and two other guys walked with me. They had finished picked up their friend. Apparently  he had to bring his dog to the veterinarian the day before. It ate two of the white chocolate Magnums the guy kept in his mini fridge under the bed. The dog did survive though, but if you ask me, it was a stupid dog with no taste.

An honest question, who would even eat the white Magnums? The white chocolate taste like toothpaste and there is an enormous lack of almonds. Not that I was going to say that to the guy who just arrived- Noah. The guy looked like he was going to burst out in tears any minute now.

As they were outside, picking up Noah, I knew they heard about the rumours. Fathers technique worked, they start talking about it after the first staircase.

"Yeah so, my mum spoke to the vice principal. Apparently he was not going to come back this year, but he changed his mind a few days ago. Nobody knows why. Does he not realise we don't want him here? I mean- he knows he's not welcome right?" The dog guy said.

"Oh, Mark you don't know it yet, right?" He asked. I shook my head.

"Last year, there was a student who ended up fighting Marcellus- oh yeah, Marcellus is on the football team. Everyone in our year knows him. Anyway, there was this one student who got into a huge fight with him. He used to be his roommate and best friend. We do not know exactly what happened, but apparently he forced himself on Marcellus. Going all, 'Oh, Marcell! I am infuriated with you!' blah blah blah. Can you believe that!" He rambled on and on.

"The whole news of what he had done had, by then, spread through the academy. The guy went mad, saying he did not and implying Marcellus lied."

Noah took a deep breath.

Apparently Atticus- Noahs friend, who's name I forgot earlier- had enough of the suspense and just wanted to get it on with, and said: "They had this massive fight in the courtyard. Both Marcellus and the guy ended up having to go the hospital. But, Marcellus injuries were way worse than the other guy his injuries. He broke his arm, nose and fractured his foot. The big game was about in a week, and Marcellus is the best player we have. We ended up losing with 2-28. It was the biggest failure since the game against the Falcons."

Noah continued the story, saying, "People are saying the guy did it so that Marcellus wouldn't be able to play the game. That he was jealous because he barely had any friends, and Marcellus was pretty popular.

Whatever the reason was, we were brought to shame during that match. The schools honour was severely damaged. And all because of him. What he did was terrible, really. I can't believe they let him comeback!"

The other guys nodded as he spoke. Honestly it did sound bad. The guy making a move on an obviously straight guy, and destroying the schools honour with it.

"I wonder where he is going to be staying. I wouldn't want to share a dorm with him. What if he spies and jerks off to you? Gross." Damian exclaimed.

Atticus and Noah slightly stifled behind me, but Damian was oblivious and continued,  "I heard all the dorms are full, since they gave his room to another student. Wait- Mark, you're new. Are you Marcellus's new roommate?" Damien asked.

"No." I answered. Did they really think I was going to share a room? There was no way in hell.

The three looked confused, so I added, "I have my own dorm. I do not have a roommate."

"Oh. That must be nice! I'm stuck with these two pigs," Noah said, pointing towards Damian and Atticus, who smacked him playfully in return.

A few staircases later, we said our goodbyes. They went left, towards the shared dorms of the 12th years, I had to walk up a few more staircases.

Maybe this year would be entertaining after all, with the guy being back at school, maybe we would get a few more fistfights.

I was already daydreaming about possible scenarios with me standing on the sidelines, cheering them on screaming,' FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT!'.
