~Evie's POV~
At the stroke of Midnight and finding ourselves in the kitchen now, we began to add the love potion ingredients together. "All right. It says that we still need one tear, and I never cry." Mal said, looking as beautiful as ever and stirring the ingredients together."Let's just chop up some onions," Carlos said, tossing an onion across the kitchen towards Jay.
Millie groaned, rolling her eyes at Jay. "No. It says that we need one tear of human sadness. And this love potion gets the best reviews, so we have to follow it exactly."
"A tear is a tear," Jay exclaimed.
I shook my head and maybe just maybe added some of my chemistry smarts into context. "That's not exactly true, Jay. They both have antibodies and enzymes, but an emotional tear has more protein-based hormones than a reflex tear."
Mal smiled, walking over to me, still mixing the bowl. "Oh. Listen to you." She laughed, elbowing me before finally placing the bowl back onto the countertop.
"Okay. I totally knew all of that," Jay said.
"Totally Sherlock," Millie joked.
"There you are, Mal!" We all turned our gaze to see Lonnie walking in. "I was looking for you. You know, all the girls want you to do their hair! Midnight snack, huh? What are you guys making?"
"Nothing special. Just cookies." Millie answered when suddenly, before anyone could stop her, Lonnie ate some of the dough. "Oh, no, no!"
Lonnie looked back up in a very confused fashion. "What? I'm not gonna double dip."
I sighed, trying to play it off. "Feel anything?"
"Yeah, like it could be missing something," Mal added.
Lonnie licked the remainder of the dough from her lips. "Could use some chips." She said, walking to the fridge then back over with a bowl full of these" chips" Whatever these were. "Chocolate chips. Just the most important food group."
Then Lonnie's next comment made a drastic change in the mood of the room. "Wait, didn't your moms ever make you guys, like, chocolate chip cookies? Like, when you're feeling sad, and they're fresh from the oven, with a big old glass of milk. And she just makes you laugh and puts everything into perspective. Why are you all looking at me like that?"
Mal rested her head on Millie's shoulder as Millie began to answer Lonnie quietly. "It's just different where we're from."
"Yeah, I know. I just, you know, I thought...Even villains love their kids. Oh..how awful." Lonnie had done it. She was so even into her feelings that she started to cry.
Mal raised her head from Millie's shoulder, brushing the tear from her cheek into the bowl." Yeah, well, big bummer. But we have to get these into the oven, so thank you so much for coming by. Really, really, have a good night. I'll see you tomorrow. Evil dreams."
Mal shoved Lonnie out of the room, smiling. Her adorable smile lit up her face as she grinned now from ear to ear. "Okay, boys, cookie sheet. Evie and Millie, oven."
~Millie's POV~
We walked together to the main hallway of classes as we had done nearly 24 hours before. But this time was definitely different. It probably helped that all the girls who had asked Mal to do their hair began to wave and call out to me as we passed by, and just overall were a lot more welcoming than they had been yesterday.
