Chapter 11: I Choose Good

~Evie’s POV~
While Millie rode into the building with Ben, I followed in behind Mal, trying to keep our relationship low-key since it was being broadcasted all over and to our parents as well. And secondly, being kind of afraid to arouse that news to the nearby crowds of AK’s just yet. We slid past as the camera flipped back to Prince Ben and Millie in the carriage strolling to the front of the building. Mother laughed,” Well, if it isn’t.”

“Millie.My daughter. Looking like some kind of..” Maleficent started.

  Snow White interrupted from the TV.” Princess!” She exclaimed,” Now, let’s see who this beauty is wearing. Evie.”

“Evie! That’s my dau..Evie!” Mother exclaimed.

“Wow. She sewed a dress. Meanwhile, my girl duped a prince, and she’s this close to grabbing the magic wand.” Maleficent added. “It’s happening, people! It’s happening! I say, gird your loins! Gird your loins! Villains, our revenge begins today.”

~Millie’s POV~
Spotting Mal and Evie, I waved from the carriage. They waved back before spotting Carlos and running inside. The carriage came to a stop, and I followed next to Ben to where his parents were waiting for us.” About the other day, I just..”

Ben’s dad chuckled.” I told Ben this wasn’t going to be easy.”

“You also taught me that a king has to believe in himself. Even when it isn’t easy.” Ben added, grabbing my hand and placing it into his.

“I did? Huh, how very wise of me.” King Adam joked.

“Ben, we are very proud of you. You just keep listening to your heart.” Belle added, smiling at the two of us.

Ben smiled.” Thanks, mom.”

“You’re gonna make a fine king.” King Adam added, ruffling Ben’s hair.

I hugged Ben goodbye as Lumiere led me off to the front section of the cathedral along with his parents and the Fairy Godmother. I felt Mother’s voice whispering inside my mind. Please don’t blow it, kiddo. Her voice said.

Suddenly, Ben coming down the central aisle and Fairy Godmother’s beginning to speak and grabbing her wand from under the container was enough to bring me back to reality. “Do you solemnly swear to govern the peoples of Auradon with justice and mercy as long as you shall reign?”

I could feel my mother’s presence judging me as I continued to stand there. Grab the thing already; it said as Ben nodded,” I solemnly swear.”

“Then it is my honor and joy to bless our new king.” She was suddenly interrupted by Jane, who had done the hard part of grabbing the wand from FG’s grasp and began to swing it about.” Child, what are you doing?” Another swing, and the barrier was now broken.

But Jane wasn’t anywhere near done.” If you won’t make me beautiful, I’ll do it myself! Bibbidi bobbidi boo!”

“Millie, careful!” Belle called after me as I ripped it from Jane’s grasp. Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos ran down from the balcony now.

“Millie, give me the wand,” Ben said, walking slowly towards me as I held the wand out tightly.

I shook my head, raising the wand higher.” Stand back.”

Ben reached for the wand again. ” It’s okay.”

“BEN! I said stand back!” I yelled again as Mal, Evie, Jay, and Carlos were now behind me.

“I told you so!” I heard Audrey yell from behind us, and as I flipped to face her, she ran back to her grandmother and away from us.

“Let’s go,” Carlos said.

Jay nodded.” Yup, revenge time.”

~Mal’s POV~
Well, this was it. There was no turning back now. Millie had gotten the wand, and with the help of darling little Jane, the barrier was now broken. “Are you sure you want to do this?” Ben asked a broken-hearted Millie.

Millie shook her head, sighing, and while fighting back the tears.” Well no! But we have no choice, Ben!”

“No, your parents made their choice. Now you make yours,” Ben said.

Millie stopped, slowly lowering the wand to her side.” I think I want to be good.” I heard her say in a hushed tone. She must’ve felt it too. A sense of dark magic that anyone would be able to tell that of the Mistress of Evil Maleficent was nearby.

“You are good,” Ben said.

“How do you know that?” Ben reached out to hug her, but afraid she pushed him back.

“Because.” Ben started,” Because I’m listening to my heart.”

“And I want to listen to my heart too. And my heart is telling me we are not our parents. I mean, Jay, stealing things doesn’t make you happy. Tourney and victory pizza makes you happy. And Carlos, scratching Dude’s belly makes you happy, who would have thought. Evie, you don’t have to play dumb to get someone to notice you; you are so smart.”

She paused, turning her attention to me now.” And Mal, I don’t know about you, but I’m over trying to be like mom. Over trying to be someone, I’m not. So screw her! Screw Evie’s mother too. If you love Evie, and I know you do.” She was interrupted by a sudden gasp from the crowd, but luckily none of the AKs seemed to mind.

 Mille went on,” Then you should feel free to love whomever you choose to love. Free to continue your relationship with her. And I, I don’t want to take over the world with evil. It doesn’t make me happy. I want to go to school and be with Ben because Ben..he makes me so happy.” Millie flipped back around, sliding the ring Ben had given her onto her finger, before turning back to all of us. “Us; all of us, being friends makes me really happy. We’re not off destroying things. I choose good, you guys.”

I looked around as everyone’s mouths dropped in shock. “Say no more, sis. I am in!” I said, throwing my hand in beside hers.

“I choose good too.” Jay followed.

“I choose good,” Evie said.

 Before not too long, it was just Carlos left.” So, just to be clear, we don’t have to be worried about how mad our parents will be? Because they’re gonna be really, really mad.”

We all laughed, and Ben shook his head.” Your parents can’t reach you here.”

“Okay then.” That was the final reassurance that Carlos needed. “Good.”

We all laughed lightly as we did a group hug. And for that one moment, everything was perfect. But then that moment ended.
