8~ The Kitchen

MC POV

All plans to wake up early were cancelled as the the sound of thunder startled me awake. As much as I tried to curl up in the cold under my blanket and go back to sleep, I couldn't. As long as my eyes were open I wouldn't be able to fall back asleep until tonight. It would've been super comfy to sleep while its raining.

I reluctantly got up and went to the bathroom, brushed my teeth, took a super cold bath to feel extra fresh and put comfy clothes on; a simple tube top and sweatpants. As for my hair, I undid the messy french braids and did a quick messy bun a top my head, loose strands framed my face and hung loosely. I looked at myself in the mirror, my face had a healthy flush to it and my skin glowed with a healthy shine.

It was only seven thirty in the morning and the picnic wasn't until this afternoon so I had plenty of time to do whatever I pleased. I collected my phone and went outside. Glancing at Jakes door I figured he was still asleep, Lilly probably was too. I started down the stairs and made my way to the kitchen. I put some water to hot in the kettle to make coffee while I sat on a barstool around the kitchen island and checked my inbox. Turns out everyone was assigned to bring a different set of things for the picnic. It ranged from solid foods to salads, beverages, fruits, snacks and pastries. Lilly, Jake and I were assigned to snacks which was a jackpot. Back when I used to live with my parents, my mum thought me how to make all kinds of snacks that could also be served as apitizers and side dishes. I went through some of my emails about work. I was adding cream to my coffee when my phone chimed with a text. I wondered who'd be texting this early. I leisurely made my way back the the counter with a steaming hot cup of coffee in my hand. The rain was falling a lot less harder than before, which was good. I don't think it would've been much fun to have a picnic on a rainy day. Checking my inbox, I saw the message was from Phil.

Just saw u were online n wanted to find out how you were doin ;)

Since I didn't really have anything to do and the picnic wasn't until later, I decided why not make some breakfast for Jake and Lilly. I started gathering ingredients to make some pancakes and replying to Phil's messages at the same time. Lilly's kitchen was thankfully easy to maneuver around and I located utencils easily. In no time I whipped up the pancake batter and prepared the stove to cook it. My phone pinged with another message and I smiled, shaking my head at something silly Phil sent.

When the pan was ready I poured some of the mixture in, little bubbles formed in it, making soft sizzling sounds. The first pankcake wasn't exactly shaped like a circle. I chuckled at the disfigured shape. The others though, they came out ok.

"Morning!" Someone chirped happily behind me, making me jump and nearly drop the glass bowl I was washing. I turned around only to see no other than Lilly standing in the doorway. She was still clad in pajamas but her short blonde hair was comed and she looked ready for the day. "Lilly! Oh my goodness you're gonna give me a heat attack." I said holding my chest, willing my heart to stop beating so fast. "Sorryyy, I didn't mean to scare you." I chuckled shaking my head, "Its ok, morning by the way. I made breakfast." I told her, walking back to the counter. "Oh MC, you didn't have to, but thank you!" She chirped, coming to the counter. "It smells heavenly by the way." She told me placing both ands on my upper arm and looking over my should from behind. I smile at her. "Yea, there's coffee in the kettle." I told her replying to something Phil asked. It was actually quite entertaining to chat with him. I started preparing three plates of pancakes, stacking them neatly on top of each other.
