Chapter 14: Her Heartache

Chapter Summary: She thought that she would never feel the pain again. She thought that she had moved on. She thought that she could take everything… but she was wrong.

'So they say that time
Takes away the pain
But I'm still the same…

You and all the regret
the more it ends up impossible to untie and we ended up separating
It is painful now, this is painful
I want to forget you immediately…

So this is heartache?
So this is heartache?
The accumulated regret
changes into a tear oh baby…'

Heartache – One Ok Rock (Rurouni Kenshin: Densetsu no Saigo-hen)

The quietness of the place brought a deafening effect to her as she ran to the corridor. There weren't enough students around so she wouldn't be bothered if someone spotted her crying. Yeah, she cried for the first time since their break up almost four months ago.

Sakuno promised to herself that she would never cry again but she broke that promise that day, the day when Ryoma surprised her with a kiss without warning. It was pathetic of her. It was a pathetic reason to cry in front of him. Why did she cry in front of him? Was it because he kissed her?

No it was more than that but she didn't know what… yet. All she knew was she felt pain. She was hurt. She was hurt again by the same guy. Closing her eyes, she tried to wipe her tears away as she turned into a corner.

Only to be bumped by someone. If it hadn't for the person's hand that collided with her, she would've fell on the ground. The person grabbed her arm and helped her gain her falling balance. She looked up and was about to apologize when she recognize the person… people in front of her.

The Captain of the boy's tennis club and the tensai whose cerulean eyes were opened, shocked to see her crying.

"T-Tezuka-senpai, Fuji-senpai…" She whispered as another set of tears fell from her cheek.

The Captain gently placed his hand to her shoulder, "What happened?" He asked with concern, "Why are you crying?"

Upon hearing that, her tears fell even more and she couldn't bring herself to speak. She only looked down and closed her eyes at the same time. Speaking would only bring more pain to her heart so she just cried it all out.

Tezuka, who was just staring at her, began wrapping his own arms to her shoulder bringing her closer for a hug. The girl let him hug her as her cries intensified. He comforted the girl by massaging her back with his hand. His expression was unreadable at that moment.

The tensai was shocked to see her reaction. Sakuno was crying and Tezuka was comforting her. The girl never cried no matter what the case was. She didn't even cry when her painting was ruined by an anonymous person. So why was the girl crying now? Seeing the girl cry made his own heart stricken. He didn't want to see her like that. He clenched his hands to his side. Without asking the girl, he knew who was responsible for her tears.
