My fingers weave together into a clasp that wraps behind my head, my thumbs brushing the nape of my neck lightly as I pace the hallway right outside of Colby's door. She's in there, a doctor stitching up the wound- the incision that has caused her so much agony. I feel sick to my stomach, something thick and lumpy sitting in my chest waiting for the perfect time to claw its way up my esophagus and eject itself out of my mouth. I eventually start shaking, and I realize that I should probably sit down because extra dizziness is not good for my nausea.
"Oh my, God." I whispered under my breath, my voice shaking as Cole squeezed her eyes shut for a moment, focusing on breathing. "Oh, God."
"Y-you know h-he k-k-k-killed h-he-her?" She stuttered out, the words raw and hoarse and all around weak as she practically squeaked. My heart had dropped to the pit of my stomach watching the horrified glint in her eyes when she reopened them. Her lips were paling as blood dribbled from her mouth and stained them red. "He carved... h-he..."
"I know, baby, I know." I told her slowly, stroking her paling forehead as I tried my best to calm her down. The last thing we needed was for her to freak the fuck out anymore. "I'm sorry."
"He doesn't wanna do it to me," she said through her tears, breaking down in more tears before realizing that it hurt her more. She gasped in pain, gulping as much air down as she could. I could hear Maya from the hallway, screaming because she couldn't see me or Cole. I thank God that Joe and Andy had enough sense to keep Maya out of here. "He..."
"Shh, don't talk," I said in a soothing voice. "Just listen to my voice, okay?"
"Mhm," she gulped down.
"You're going to get through this, I swear. You're going to come out of this stronger, for Maya, for yourself. God, Cole," I took in a deep breath of air before continuing, "There's this place that I know. It's beautiful, I mean, not as beautiful as you and Maya." She smiled at that. "I was going to take you today, but I swear that you'll see it. There's this gorgeous lake that makes it just a bit breezy that you need a sweater. And the sun reflects off of it," her eyes were closing at this point and I was speaking quicker now, my voice raising slightly as I tried to keep her awake. Her whitening hand reached out for my mine before she held onto it, nodding softly for me to continue. So I did. I went on and on for her, talking until the police and the ambulance were finally there. The secretary who had called me earlier was reporting that there were about two ambulances and a total of five or six police cars stopping in front of the building, paramedics rushing into the building while people were being ushered out of the way with police officers right on their tail. I looked down at Cole, pressing a kiss to her own mouth. "See? I told you you could do it." I tried to ignore the blood soaking through the cloth packed tightly around the knife that Cole failed to remove from her stomach, which apparently was good because it kept the blood in and eliminated the chance of bleeding to death. "I love you."
"I love you," she replied softly to me, her breathing shallow.
I sigh in exhaustion, closing my eyes and pressing my face into my hands. I shouldn't be as terrified as I am right now because Cole will be all okay, but I am, because my Porcelain is in danger now along with our baby girl. I blow out a frustrated sigh, chewing on my bottom lip because I was anxious as hell. I almost jump when I hear my name being called. "Patrick," Pete is saying, Maya sitting on his hip as he carries her to me, Joe and Andy right behind him. I stand up immediately, swaying slightly and having to grab hold of the wall to keep my balance in check. Andy steps around Pete and stops at my side, throwing his arm over my shoulder to balance me before helping me sit down.
