Being out here—being back here forces thousands of chills to cover the entirety of my skin. This is all despite the warmth of the sunrise streaming through the canopy of branches high above.

I stare at the worn cabin with uneasiness from several feet away, hidden behind a throng of shady trees and brush as I shift between my feet every so often to relieve any tension from my body. And with every movement, I feel the way this strange, dark-colored suit moves with me.

The clothes I'd been given were meant for combat—or something revolving around those parameters. I know this was done on purpose by Eira; she wanted us to be prepared for anything, after all. The outfit hugs every inch of me while offering a weightless attraction. And I can't say I hate it.

I'm also equipped with four lethal silver blades, all of which are secured in their holsters against my belt and legs. Max, on the other hand, was provided with more weapons than me—two guns and a set of his own knives—but that's mostly because he's not armed with abilities and a second beastly conscience like I am.

He was only given them for extreme measures, I continuously reassure myself. Nothing else.

The cabin's wooden porch is in the same conditions I'd left it in—at least, that's what I can make out from this distance. I'm unable to fathom that this place had been my shelter and home for two months not too long ago.

An urgency screams at me to run forth and take what we've traveled so far for—what comes down to the objective in this war: ending my father's reign as a sadistic general. And that starts with getting this damn stone.

It took a lot of convincing on everyone's part to leave a few hours early for the cabin. But I think we were all able to agree with my mate's unknown conditions that waiting any longer would only be time lost towards our efforts.

Getting here proved to be less trouble than any of us expected. With only our small group traveling by car, the rest of the teams had set foot first and found no trace of Maddox's warriors on the surrounding lands of the cabin. I can't tell if this should be a relief or not—whether they're all preoccupied with their objective in Mylthia or if my sister is somehow involved with keeping some of them hidden from our eyes. I don't know the full extent of her abilities or if what I witnessed on my kingdom's walls was all she possesses. But some part of me is hoping she can't project her powers in that way.

The fact that we now know that Serofina has capabilities similar to mine...I feel as though we're taking chances with every move we make. There's no situation where she couldn't suddenly interfere in now. With that thought in mind, I'd warned Eira to tell the warriors to keep their focus on any strange activity and to report it immediately. Because once that stone is out of its box, it's vulnerable for anyone's taking.

Just as the book from Mylithia's library had indicated, the Moonstone was hidden during the Ancient Era in a box of silver—the strongbox formed by the first human king and Alpha Luka all those centuries ago. But I'm beginning to wonder how the hell it ended up out here in one of the most bizarre places to hide such a valuable item.

The thought recedes into my mind when Max approaches into view on my right, Ancient Forest terrain crunching under his heavy boots. I turn to him, and I know he can sense the unsettling feeling churning in my stomach right now.
