With me having no personal belongings, we leave that damn hospital in record time. Samuel seems to be in a rush to get home, but he's patient for me. My body is slow as it readjusts to this new normal—his skin against mine. Every breathing second, one of his hands—or both of them—are on me, unable to get enough of these new sensations. I'll even admit, I can't either.

If we're walking, his palm will be pressed against my back or holding my hand as a thumb runs over my fingers. Even the smallest gestures send relentless waves of shudders up and down my skin. I didn't know the mating bond could be so intense. What Sterling had told me all those months ago barely compares to this.

Outside of the hospital awaits a black Audi and Xander's welcoming face. To see him since the incident brings back a sense of normalcy. He gives me a brief hug—only for a moment as to not upset Samuel—, asking how my leg has been since our therapy. I completely forgot about our sessions, but I tell him that it fully healed during my time away. It's the most I've ever seen him attempt to socialize with me, but it must be because of this newfound role of mine. I'm helped into the backseat of the car after our short encounter, Samuel looking pleased to see that I'm not as on edge as I once was.

The drive home is quiet, but far from calm for me. I thought I was finally able to find a sense of peace after Samuel and I's reunion, but my leg incessantly shakes up and down during most of the ride, sending my anxiety through the roof. My eyes are focused on the scenery and structures we pass, trying to get my mind off of my jitters. And then suddenly, Samuel's hand is on my thigh, ceasing my agitation with a gentle squeeze as his thumb runs up and down the material of my leggings.

I turn to look him in the eyes, finding his stare solely on me. Something about that forces a wave of bliss through my bones. He leans in, his lips against my ear as he whispers, "There's nothing to be nervous about, Anastasia. Just relax." He makes it sound so simple—so easy, but he truly doesn't understand the magnitude of this new effect he has on me.

I inhale a steady breath as his hot words run down my neck. But I'm struggling to control my urgent needs with the inappropriate ideas running rampant around my mind. And I'm sure we both know why I'm so fidgety in the first place. Samuel's eyes gleam against the sun shining through the car window as he pulls away from my ear to gently kiss my cheek, lighting my face on fire.

I glance once at Xander who's focused on the road ahead, not seeming bothered by what's occurring behind him. Samuel squeezes my leg again, causing my eyes to return to him. He leans in, prepared to place a soft kiss against my lips—but I stop him with a hand holding his jaw. I watch something within him turn lethal at my reaction as I murmur, "Patience is a virtue, Samuel."

He snickers, pushing against my grip, but I keep him there with some unknown strength. I can't help but wonder whether it's a result of my abilities or not. "When the hell did you become stronger than me?" He smirks, taking the wrist holding him away into his grasp. He doesn't pull my hand away though—he teases the skin over my arm and fingers, wanting me to feel every inch of electricity flowing between us.

"Stop that," I breathe out, angered that he's able to make me feel so unstable.

"I'd rather not," he mumbles with a wider grin. And then his fingers lightly pinch my wrist. "Besides, I love watching you get fussy when you don't get your way." My core heats at the tone of those words, but I roll my eyes and turn away, finally releasing my hold on his jaw. Samuel grabs my hand again and makes me look him in the eyes though. "Careful." A warning.
