Viewer Discretion Advised
As a precaution since I'm realizing this series is reaching its *extremely* dark turning point, I'll be specifying chapters containing very sensitive content with the warning above. Though this book has always been labeled as containing mature themes, I'm acknowledging now that there's going to be a lot of controversy over what becomes of these final chapters.
If AT ALL you disagree with my writing or the outcome of this book, please keep your unkind comments to yourself. I've had a lot of these details planned for months now, meaning these are not scenes I randomly came up with mid-chapter. Not to mention, my intentions as a writer when I began this hobby were to form raw emotions with my stories. I hate bland, straightforward plots, but I also try to incorporate a lot of realism into my works.
Though there may be gruesome content, please please please know that I do not condone any immoral or inhuman actions. This is simply a fictional story.
Thank you, Reader.

~ Samuel ~
"Let's start from the beginning, shall we?"
Maddox's words are a blurb of syllables that run through my ear. That's only because there's barely any capacity left for me to concentrate. Not with this silver chained to my damn arm.
My head hangs heavy, a struggle for me to keep it upright as he continues. "I'm well aware that your mate is also my youngest daughter," he drawls. Markus stands erectly beside the general's carved throne, looking like the Devil's servant. I have no doubt that he was the one to tell his superior this news. Or maybe it was instinct since my mate's first shift, knowing it had awoken him into this desire for power. "Anastasia, isn't it?"
I wince slightly at the sound of my wife's name against the fowl male's tongue, but I keep my mouth shut.
Preserve your energy, my wolf tells me.
A metallic taste faintly appears in my mouth, likely from the impact of Maddox's punch only moments ago.
"Weren't you also the one to kidnap her from her kingdom all those months ago?" he goes on.
"That kingdom is deceitful and a menace to this world," I finally spit out, my eyes peeking through the strands of my messy dark hair. "And they owed me a debt."
"So you took my blood as compensation?" Maddox says, his voice growing firmer.
"I saved her from that dishonest life," I snap. "She even admitted to me that she loathed it—that her royal parents lying to her about her truth had been her breaking point."
There are so many conversations I've had with my mate in private since her return—so many things I needed to understand about her as well as her feelings towards this war. Including everything that occurred while she was in isolation. Because the last thing I wanted to do was to cause her any additional panic.
She never deserved the life she once lived. She deserves love and transparency. And I've been trying so damn hard to provide her with both during these past several months.
