CHAPTER TWO

ˏˋ°•*⁀➷ HIGH SPEED CAR CHASE

THE GRY HOUSEHOLD was a quiet place. In all sense of the word. It lacked the loudness that came with raising kids, it lacked the sound of parents suddenly having the urge to vacuum at midnight. There were no bold patterns, or toys hanging around benchtops or under couches. The entire house was silent. The only thing truly making this house a home was the fact that Chrissy and Rosie lived there. Their mom had left the picture when Rosie was nine months, and now having to support two kids on his own, their dad had to work multiple jobs. His shifts perfectly lined up between the grocers, the convenience store and the hospital. So they pretty much never saw him on weekdays, only on Sunday, his one day off. Which meant, they basically had the place to themselves.

Rosie entered the house as she normally did, tossing her bag in the designated corner for random items, pulling off her sneakers, and flopping down on the couch.

"Are you dressing up for Halloween?" She posed the question to her older sister, who had left for the kitchen.

The Grys weren't poor, but they certainly weren't rich, either. They lived up Cherry Road, known to be a poorer part of town, but in actuality, they had the biggest house in the street. Before the street became chock filled with people desperate for living quarters, it was a relatively middle-class neighbourhood. The interior decor was just as simple and pretty much what you'd expect to see in old Cherry Road. Second-hand furniture was thrown together in an attempt to appear cohesive. It was a rather open house, with a living room on the left side of the house, and a kitchen rather close, with a hallway that led to the bedrooms of Rosie's and her sister's, as well as her dad's.

Chrissy snorted as if she couldn't believe what had come out of Rosie's mouth, "No."

"Aren't you going to that party?"

"How the hell do you know about that?" Chrissy asked incredulously, popping out of the kitchen to shoot her a concerned look, potato chips now in hand.

Rosie shrugged, looking up at the older girl, "I have my ways. Don't you wanna impress Steeeeve-?"

The eldest Gry sibling looked aghast until she burst out laughing.

"Steve Harrington!" She cackled, as she completely doubled over, and for a second it looked like her food would spill out of its bag, "Oh please! I only hang out with them to be around Nancy. She's...my best friend."

Rosie nodded, not thinking much of it, until she asked another question, "Who should I go as?"

"For what?"

"Halloween!" Rosie responded, exasperated, "Have you not been listening to this conversation?"

"No," Chrissy replied honestly, still breathing heavily from her unexpected fit of laughter, "I kinda tuned out after you said I'd wanna impress Steve Harrington-!"
