An attempted kiss had turned into unwanted catastrophe. I didn't know what was going on. One second, Ramerio and I were drawing into each other's embrace. The next, my mind had completely changed gear. I felt hate, strength, and fear. I attacked him with no intention for him to live.

I was so close to driving the sharp stick in my hand through his heart. However, a gun sounded, and I froze. "Carter, don't!" I heard Ramerio shout beforehand, but I had already sank to my knees. No blood was leaving me. I was only left shaking. Did he miss on purpose? Why was the air around me so unbearably loud?

I screamed and covered my ears. I tried to get the loud siren noise out of my eardrums, but it was growing, and it hurt terribly. Ramerio's arms caved around me, and I was lifted off the ground with ease. "You're going to be okay, I promise. Hang in there," he told me, but through all the painful racket I heard, his voice sounded so small.

"What did you do Carter?!"

His brother started to laugh, "Forse puoi ringraziarmi." ("Maybe you can thank me.")

Ramerio didn't seem to care for his own life at the moment, "We're going another round when we fix this."

I had passed out before anything else could be said or done, leaving my body to hang in Ramerio's arms. I didn't have to be awake to know the man holding me was becoming lively of boiling blood. He may have been distant in certain emotional instances, but I did know he at least cared for me.

A shame he had to deal with such a broken girl.

How many times would everything have to go black before I get to see the light?

"Diamond?"

I jolted up out of my sleep in a panting fit.

For some reason, I had oddly dreamt about my father. He was taking me to a lab and telling me everything would be alright after a certain procedure. I was soon standing inside a cell, screaming for help while my father stood there, doing nothing. He told me he loved me before walking away and shutting off the lights, leaving me to bathe in darkness and illusions.

"Diamond..." I heard again.

I was shivering as if I had a fever and cold sweats. The nightmare I just had, I wouldn't wish upon anyone, even my worst enemy. It felt so real, as if I had lived it before. But it couldn't be real, right? It seemed too out-of-this-world to be a real thing. Stuff like that only happened to the main villian in superhero movies, I suppose, but for some reason my heart physically hurt.

I started to weep, "Daddy."

A deep sigh came from beside me. I heard sheets ruffle the next second, only then to feel a warmth come over me. Someone had slid into bed with me. "Lay down with me," the person ordered. I obeyed, and laid back, facing the man I had come to like way more than I should. His dark hair was a tad bit messy, and his green eyes were surrounded with some red.

Did he go restless for me? Or did he cry...

"Daddy," I whispered again. A light blush crept up Ramerio's neck all the way to his cheeks. He responded to it nonetheless and brushed my hair out of my face with his callused fingers. "What's the matter, diamond? I'm all ears."

I moved his fingers from my face and began to suck lightly on one of his fingers. They were sweet, as if he had prepared for this by coating them in a good substance. I almost sighed in contentment. That soft vulnerable space began to take over me again, and I never knew why it would happen. It just did, and I'd succumb to it without hesitation.

"Do you want Grogu?" Ramerio asked me as he tickled my tongue a little with his finger.

I shook my head.

"Jerry Perrywinkle?"

I declined again.

He hummed, "You don't want anything?"

"I want you," I mumbled.

"You already have me, Liara."

I had rested beside Ramerio that afternoon, taking a mini nap in his arms. It wasn't that big a thing for him. He causally woke up, unfazed, but my feelings were growing bigger for him by the second. Such a mysterious and scary man had become one of the most special people in my life.

Another thing I had noticed when I woke up was that I had gauzes wrapped around my upper left arm. Ramerio said he had to take something dangerous out of my system, but he never clarified a thing. I was still swarming in questions that I've never received the answer to. Would he ever tell me?

"Ready for another?" Carter asked me and held up a big green grape. He pronounced his syllables better to where I could understand him. At first, he'd string his English words together as if he was speaking in cursive.

I nodded and opened my mouth wide for invitation. He threw it my way and I caught it with my tongue, chewing the deliciously juicy fruit. "Questa è la nostra ragazza!" ("That's our girl!")

Ramerio took a fistful of Carter's shirt quicker than an eye could blink. "Mine. You understand?"

I didn't know what he was getting fussy about, but Carter, being the natural challenger he was, only smirked. "We'll see, brother."

Ramerio released him, but never ceased to glare him down violently.

"Keep your fucking distance."
