James, well, James is very close to being a sociopath. He slips in and out of personalities like coats. He's excellent at compartmentalization, he genuinely doesn't see why his killing is an issue or why it might startle people that he can be so caring and gentle one moment then so horrible the next.Scars/Distinctive markings
There are two small scars on his throat, like he was bitten by a snake.Likes

He's prone to sensory overload. A vampire's heightened senses weren't made for a modern world where noise never stops, they were made for hunting in quiet forests and such. He wears silk gloves and soft clothes most of the time because anything too rough or too hot hurts him.
He also speaks to his wife's grave, has full conversations with her.History
James was born one of two children to a wealthy couple in 1799. His father was nice enough, but rarely home. His mother, however, she could be god awful when she wanted. She would beat him and his sister for the slightest infractions. He remembers his sister, Alice, broke a tea cup and their mother made her walk on the broken porcelain.
When their parents died, everything was left to James since he was the eldest son. He took care of Alice until she no longer needed him. And so they lived their happy little lives. She was married to a well-off banker of some sort and he focused on his studies. James had always had somewhat loose morals, he was familiar with illegal dissections and was even a patron of Burke and Hare. It was the only way to study people's insides at the time.
Then one day, he met a woman, Elizabeth, and she was lovely. Perfect even with golden hair and eyes blue as the sea. He loved her more than anything and for the first time in his life, someone other than his sister loved him. Despite all his flaws, despite the cutting people apart and the temper tantrums, she loved him. She loved him no matter what and quickly they were married.
Elizabeth fell pregnant about two years into their marriage. They were overjoyed, of course. But then things went south.
There was a man, one of Elizabeth's suitors before James, who was madly jealous of them. He resolved to punish them both. One night, while they were sleeping, he crept into their home. He'd already been invited in by a servant previously, so he could come and go as he pleased. He turned James and left. From there, everything fell into place.
The first thing that hits you when you become a vampire is an overwhelming thirst. There's no escaping from it. So, lying on the floor, blood still dripping from the small wounds in his throat, James heard the blood rushing through Elizabeth's veins and his mind was clouded.
He doesn't even remember it, not really, he just remembers flashes and screaming. When he came out of his daze, Elizabeth was dead in his arms, her blood covering him. He had killed his darling wife and their unborn child. Not knowing what else to do, he buried their bodies in the backyard and reported Elizabeth missing.
Now the year is 1880, Alice is dead and he lives in a rotting house said to be haunted by the ghost of a murdered woman. It's not, it's just him and his paintings and dissections. It's a sad and lonely existence, one he's resolved to escape. So more and more recently, he's begun to leave the mansion.
He's a dark family secret, passed down by Alice to her ancestors. Wonderful kids, they supply their Uncle Jack with animals ranging from deer to rabbits to placate him. He's friendly with them all and has only eaten a couple of their partners. They deal with them, if they don't more people will die and the family name will be ruined.Face-claim
