They don't consider themself to be any specific gender due to the fact that they're a shapeshifter. Usually they go by they/them pronouns, but will go by gendered ones when they're in certain forms.

Species
An unknown type of shapeshifter. Their most notable features are their hematite eyes, with no whites, irises or pupils and their tall, angular forms.

Mental Health
The death of their family had a profound effect on them, like it would on anyone. The difference is that they mourned, unmoving for 10,000 years during which a tree grew around them. When they were freed, they weren't the same person. The family man that everyone loved, who could make anyone laugh was gone. Now, they were just a bitter, angry creature hellbent on making others suffer.
They suffer from bouts of depression, where they can't even get out of bed and they just sit there. Each time they close their eyes they see the mutilated corpses of their pregnant wife and little son. They also have horrifying mood swings, going from an almost sinister glee to a burning rage to sobbing until there aren't any tears left. Drinking helps quell some of these intense feelings, but nothing will ever fill the void. No matter how much pain they inflict, no matter how many people they kill, no matter how much they drink, nothing can stop the pain.

Strengths
Shapeshifting, of course.
They can travel through mediums of art. For example, they can literally enter paintings and televisions, and even interact with the things and people in the painting or show.
Telepathy, they can enter someone's mind and play with their thoughts and memories. While they can't change reality, they can create a different realm in someone's mind where they have complete control.
They can melt and turn into a shadow. They often use this power in hauntings. They're a Shadow Person.
Manipulation. If they want you to think a certain way, they can make it happen just by touching you.
Calculation. They will spend months planning something out, whether or not they'll stick with it I can't say.

Heightened strength and agility.

Weaknesses
They're arrogant and selfish.
Manipulative and callous.
They're also very erratic and impulsive, often throwing away carefully calculated plans in favor of something that probably won't work.
Their family can easily be used as a weapon against them since they cling to any tiny hope that they can see them again.
Their name is also a weakness. Say it three times and you summon them like Beetlejuice, say it once and they freeze. If you learn their name, go ahead and play around with it some, see what you can do.
To use their telepathic powers, they have to touch their victim. So maybe don't get to close.
