"Alright ladies.", you positioned yourself between some bushes, hidden enough to be invisible in the darkness but not fully covered, so it would be easy to land a clear shot. "Area is calm, parents are having some alone time. Can someone double check before I blast her shoulder apart?"
A laugh filled your right ear, which was connected with the speaker of a headset.
Chris had not been fucking around as he had picked his team.
The Hound Wolf Squad.
To be fair, the name was a bit cheesy for your taste, something than an 11 year old boy would pick, but the members were fine.
There was a sniper for the fine work, a man for the rough work, someone for communication and someone for investigations. Chris was the leader, of course. All in all the team was well put together and organised like a small army.
"Alright, target is in sight. No unusual behaviour.", Canine, the spy, informed. "Husband should be safe. No child in sight."
Next to you, Chris moved. He had not needed to but still lay in the snow.
His body next to yours felt like a rock.
"Take the shot whenever you're ready.", he said. "Somewhere that does not cause too much damage, in case she's the real one."
"And if she isn't?", you asked, eyes fixed on the woman that was moving in the lens of your telescope.
"Aim for the head."
"Uh, this will be fun.", a smirk appeared on your lips as you slightly pressed the trigger, but not enough to activate the gun. "I'll bet you guys ten bucks it's not the real one."
Someone at the other line of the headset laughed. It was a woman.
"I'm in.", she said. "But I'll say it's her. In the flesh."
An amused sound escaped your lips.
"Bold statement.", you muttered and moved the shutter a little further down.
You still remembered the power that a rifle had. The recoil, the loud bang and the smell of something burned after the bullet left the barrel.
A silent prayer left your lips, you fervently hoped that you could still shoot at least half as well as you did then.
"Could you stop corrupting my people?", Chris pulled a pair of binoculars out of his pants next to you to see what you were seeing. "You hesitate."
"I never hesitate, Redfield. I'm waiting. She stands sideways, the bullet could go through the shoulder and shatter the collarbone. She has to stand facing the window, then the bullet can come out the back."
A hum made his chest tremble.
You were right, of course.
Ammunition stuck in the body was bad ammunition. If that really was the real Mia down there, he wanted her to get as little damage as possible.
That's what he appreciated about you. You carried out orders, but you also always thought one step ahead.
Downstairs in the house, Mia moved, she put a pot on the table and slapped ethan's hand away with a laugh.
Suddenly, her facial expression changed.
She seemed annoyed now, almost tired of what they were talking about.
"Ready?", you asked.
"Yes.", Chris nodded. "Take your chance."
At the very moment when the woman, a complete stranger to you, turned her upper body to the window, your finger twitched and pressed the shutter.
The bullet left the barrel with a loud noise, similar to a bang.
Then everything happened very quickly.
The sound of breaking glass filled the silence and the woman was hit in the shoulder. She did not even flinch, no screaming, no fear filled her. Instead, she looked at the red stain spreading on her blouse for a moment and then looked out the window.
Suddenly, a cold shiver crawled down your spine. It felt like she was looking right at you. But it couldn't be. It was night, you were hidden in a bush meters away, no normal person could have discovered you.
Unless she wasn't human at all.
"Soldiers, give all you have.", you ordered, pulling the trigger again.
This time you aimed directly at the head. The bullet hit her right eye, but even as her head was thrown backward by the force, she did not lose her footing.
The others started shooting, the sound of war filled your ears. The bullets pierced what they were supposed to hit, but at first it didn't seem to make a difference.
Ethan had ducked in the crossfire, only the top of his head still sticking out from behind the table.
You took that as a sign to shoot again, feeling sage that he was not endangered.
This time you hit the thing directly in the chest. Without a sound, a scream or anything that would have made her seem human, the woman fell to the floor.
When she disappeared from your sight, Chris jumped up and stormed the house.
You followed him, the gun always pointed over his shoulder, so you could shoot if something suddenly appeared in front of him.
The door burst open with surprising ease, splinters of wood and dust filling the air, making it hard to see in the darkness for a moment.
"Chris?", Ethan crawled from behind the table. "What the hell?!"
"Sorry Ethan.", without hesitation, Chris pulled out a pistol and shot the fake Mia a few times in the face.
The other soldiers were already positioning themselves around Ethan to prevent him from resisting, as you noticed how the thing was still moving.
Without trembling, you raised the gun and fired another shot. The bullet hit the neck, entering on one side and exiting on the other. Blood splattered and stained the ground.
Briefly, Chris glanced over his shoulder. Your eyes locked. He hadn't noticed that she had moved, but he was relieved that you could make up for his carelessness.
Silently, he thanked you before someone pressed a crying baby into his arms.
"Package secured, sir.", the soldier said.
Ethan raged.
He rushed forward, despite being held by a special task soldier and grabbed Chris by the shoulder.
"I said get your hands off of her!", he screamed.
Out of reflex, you raised your gun a little, but lowered it again as you remembered that Ethan was Chris' friend.
"Ethan, no.", Chris said and let one of his men take the shocked father out.
