"Now everyday it rains, and I'm the one to blame." ~Jack Avery, Grey
She's dead.
I trail my hand on everything in her old house.
Photos, earrings...
In her bedroom; posters, bed, pictures, books, clothes, shoes, every single thing she ever owned.
It's almost like she never left.
I sit on her bed.
It's almost like I'm waiting for her to come back home from her dance.
I look up at Corbyn in the doorway.
It's almost like...
It's almost like...
I start to tear up.
"If she'd just waited, if I'd just told her to wait, I might have heard what she wanted to say. I might still have my best friend," I tell Corbyn.
He smiles sympathetically, tilting his head, wondering if I want him to come over.
I stand up. "Can we go?"
"Yeah," he whispers.
We slowly go down the stairs, my hand following the railing down, looking at the pictures on the wall.
Her cousin smiles slightly as we step toward the front door.
"I know it's hard," she whispers. "I wish she knew how much I loved her."
"I'm sure she knows," I reply softly.
"Yeah," she nods. "Thanks for coming."
"Thank you for letting us in."
"Always."
Corbs and I step out into the rain, my mood instantly bouncing back up.
I laugh, spinning and dancing in the rain. I look back at Corbyn, who's holding his black umbrella.
"No!" I shout to him. "Let the rain grace you!"
He chuckles. "I really wouldn't like the rain to grace me with a bad hair day."
"It's almost. Dinner time," I say, as sassy as I can.
I'm imagining I sound like Gwenny in Alexa & Katie... although she is more annoying...
"Well then a bad hair evening," Corbyn nods.
"But that's not a thing," I pout.
He rolls his eyes playfully, before walking ahead of me. "You know what shouldn't be a thing? Like a big no, no?"
I shake my head. "What?"
"Getting into my car soaked from the rain," Corbyn says, looking at me seriously. "And I am not touching you."
He opens the passenger door anyway, pulling out a towel from the backseats and draping it around the seat.
"There. Go sit," he says softly, pulling me to the seat, careful not to touch me.
He closes my door, opening his.
"I hate you," I pout.
"You love me," he replies, getting into the car.
"Do I?" I ask, pretending to think.
"Do you?" Corbyn asks back.
"Yes."
"Obviously."
~
"First of all!" Max says loudly. "Nothing! Is going to stop me from- doing what I love! And Second! I'm going. To. Pretend. Sheisntdead."
"How?" Paul whispers. "It's August. 2 fucking months, and she's still gone. How?"
"I dunno," Max replies quietly.
Why Don't We, Paul, Max, and me all sit in a quiet, almost awkward silence.
Nik's away. Said she needed a getaway.
Lucky. I wish I had that excuse.
Not that it'd help.
Paul puts on some music.
I can't even hide it. I
haven't stopped thinkin' 'bout your lips.
Mm, your lips. Yeah.
I'm losing my mind.
It's been too long I'm missin' your kiss.
Yeah, your kiss.
You~
You've been there through it all,
You answered all my calls.
Ooh~
I can't believe I let you go.
Tears and slammin' doors,
I'm fallin' out on the floor.
Beggin', beggin', please.
You don't want me no more,
I never hurt like this before.
I'm beggin', beggin', please!
Now everyday it rains,
And I'm the one to blame.
Baby, I walked away
When you came to stay, ooh~
Now everything is grey.
I'm so so sorry.
I know that's not enough, but
It's true, yeah, it's true.
I can't believe that I
Thought I could ever live-
"Stop it, please!"
I snap my head up at Zach, who's holding his head, lying on Jack's lap.
"I don't like it," Zach whines again.
Daniel's mouth's a deep frown, it looks as if he's trying not to cry. Max is hugging him tightly. I thought it'd be the other way around.
"I thought you'd be the one crying," Corbyn whispers to me.
"I've had enough tears," I whisper back.
He nods.
Gradually, Everyone starts to leave the room. First Paul leaves, then Max and Daniel go off, until it's just me. Corbyn says he just wants to work on 'his tunes' by himself.
I walk out to the balcony.
Staring at the city, I start to wonder the question... what if?
What if...
