I sat in the jail cell for a few hours, crying most of the time. I couldn't imagine being without Dandy.
My crying quieted down to a few sniffles, just as a police officer unlocked my cell, and handcuffed me, leading me down the hall.
We went into a small room with two chairs, a desk, and several security cameras, facing every direction. He sat down, and spoke; "It was decided that a full court sentence is unnecessary, we have chosen instead, to have a detective decide if you and your friend are guilty."
He paused for a moment, then continued. "Unless of course, either of you confess now, and it will save everyone a lot of time. It could even mean more time in the slammer for you." He raised an eyebrow.
"No. I'm not confessing to anything."
"Okay then, back to the cell for you until our detective can prove you innocent, which we're sure won't happen."
...
I laid down on the cot in the corner. It was so uncomfortable compared to Dandy's bed, which I had gotten used to sleeping in.
I stared at the ceiling for what felt like an eternity as so many questions swirled my brain.
"Would I ever get out? Will Dandy get out? Will we ever be together again? " My deep thoughts were suddenly interrupted, the same officer from earlier unlocked my cell, and a man in a suit stood behind him.
"This is Detective Smith, he'd like to speak with you."
I nodded my head and followed the officer & detective into another room.
It wasn't like the other office, it was much more comfortable, with sofas and a coffee table instead of cold metal chairs and a desk.
Detective Smith sat down, and I quietly sat across from him.
The officer left without saying a word. Silence filled the room, until the detective spoke.
"You and Dandy are a couple, correct?"
"Um- yes. Yes, we are." I answered nervously.
"Tell me about how the two of you met."
"Well I um-" I didn't know what to say, I couldn't tell a detective that Dandy kidnapped me.
"I was running in the woods and-"
"Why were you running in the woods?"
"Well, I was jogging, you know, just for exercise." I chuckled.
"...and he was walking on the same trail in the other direction, and we kinda ran into each other."
He picked up his pen, writing in his notebook.
"Those woods are part of a protected state park, there are a few security cameras in the trees, we looked a few weeks back and found a clip of you and Dandy. Although we don't have audio to go with the video, we can tell that the way he picked you up was not romantic, or flirtatious, it was violent."
I sunk into the couch cushions as the detective continued.
"You don't have to admit to anything. You were kidnapped, he is a criminal, he tried to make himself the 'innocent one' and make you the murderer."
I quickly jumped up.
"No! Dandy is a good person! He-"
"Stop. There's no point in arguing, he's been found guilty, and you've been found innocent. Pack your things, you get out of here tomorrow morning."
"But what about Dandy?"
"He's a kidnapper and a murderer. He'll be staying here a while. " Detective Smith walked me back to me cell, I willingly went in, laid on the bed, and began to cry. Where was I going to stay? How was I going to explain everything to Gloria? Would I ever be with Dandy again?
