Third POV
Percy sat at dinner with the others. Rachel had sensed the awkward tension and decided to go home. Percy cursed her to trip on her way there and dear gods did he hope she did. David was quietly eating, which was odd since he wasn't glaring either. Chloe was next to him, not exactly knowing how to feel. On one hand, she was happy that Percy was here to sit with her through this torture. On the other, she kinda felt bad that she had dragged her best friend into this.
"Why did we have to want us here?" She asked. "Your mother and I came to a decision." David said. "Uh oh." Chloe muttered. "Percy was right. I wasn't ready to move on. David wasn't ready to join a family that had already been formed. Chloe wasn't ready to have another father figure. Especially one so different from William." Joyce said, shocking her daughter and even Percy. "William's death left a hole in my heart that I was desperate to fill and I chose the first decent guy I met. I completely ignored how you could feel Chloe and I'm sorry." Chloe sputtered for a bit. Not really knowing what to say. Percy elbowed her and she cleared her throat.
"Don't worry. I know your not good with these types of things." Joyce said. "So. The decision we've come to." David said. "While I still do care about you and Joyce, I love you both. We felt it best if I take a few steps back. Move back out, let you grieve properly." He said. Chloe stared for a bit until she looked at Percy. "Percy. Help." She muttered nervously. The boy sighed and put his fork down. "Well, valiant effort and I did tell Chloe that you loved her like a daughter, but the grieving process is done now. It had been interrupted and they're stuck now. You leaving would probably help them establish a bond and respect each other more, but that's it." Percy said.
"I have an idea." Chloe said. "No offense mom, but I don't think you can survive without David here. Like Percy said, you've gotten used to it and you can't live without someone here to 'fill that hole'. So my suggestion is, I go with Percy back to New York. It's been a while since I've seen Sally, it'll give you two some space and David won't be compelled to yell at me when I do something 'stupid'. We all know I will." She said. "You just want be near Percy." Joyce smiled. "No! I want to see Sally." She defended. "Mhm. Listen, hun. Are you sure?" Chloe nodded.
"Yep. Think of it as the one and only, genuine 'sorry' David will get." She said. "Chloe." Percy scolded. "Yea, yea. So? Can I go?" Joyce nodded along with David. "Cool! I'll be going when he leaves then." Percy sighed mentally, already knowing that this was gonna be a hassle. With him going to school, being a demigod and dealing with his mom it would be difficult, but he's Percy Jackson. He can deal with it.
