"Hello class welcome to pre-calculus, I will be your teacher this year. I'll be passing around a syllabus with the requirements and expectations of this class, and we'll be going over it together. Wherever you are sat, will be your assigned seat until further notice so when I call your name I want you to raise your hand." The teacher said in their short introduction.

'Luckily I'm sitting in the front.' I thought to myself as the papers were passed around. Looking over the syllabus as she called names, I realized how serious this class is.

"Y/n?" I heard her call making me quickly raise my hand, with a lot of people looking at me when I did so before they went back to chatting with their elbow partners.

"Here." I said as I raised my hand.

"Thank you." She said writing my name down on a paper before returning back to calling other people's names.

I would have to maintain a grade of a B or higher in order to stay in the class, and if I go below that I only have a quarter to get my grade back up. Plus there was no extra credit.

I need to try my best to create a good reputation, unlike the last school I was at. Especially since it will be my first and last year here. Even though I snapped at that girl in my other class, which kind of wasn't my fault, she was being disruptive.

"Alright, class let's get to reading our syllabus." She said making the class groan as they stopped their conversations.

The bell had rung causing the kids in Y/n's class to scramble to out their stuff away and get out of the class and meet their friends for recess. The hallways getting louder by the second as all the kids from other classes also flooded out of their classes.

But Y/n took their time, especially since it was a new school and had no one to talk to. Of course, she missed her old friends, the ones that actually cared about her. But it was time to make new ones,

Here.

There were 20 minutes left to make a new friend, it couldn't be that hard right?

Looking around the class, she noticed a girl from one of her previous classes. She had long dark brown hair, with big circle framed glasses reading a book in the front corner of the class.

'Now or never.' She thought to herself as she put on her backpack and made her way to the girl.

"Excuse me, I just wanted to say that I love your glasses." Y/n said softly, the girl looking up from her book with a smile.

"Thanks, I just got them for the new school year!" She exclaimed happily. It seemed as if she hadn't talked to anyone in a while and longed for a good conversation.

"Oh that's cool, I see that you're interested in reading." Y/n said examining the book cover.

"Oh. Yeah, I enjoy reading mostly coming of age stories, or like romantic fiction." She had said with a smile. "By the way what's your name?"

"Y/n. And you are?"

"Corey."

"That's a cool name." Y/n said trying to keep the conversation alive. "What class do you have next?"

"I have AP English. What about you?" She asked, taking a look at the clock on the wall.

"Aye, we have the same class." Y/n said excitedly. "I heard that that will be one of the harder classes?"

"Yeah, don't worry about it though, as long as you remember what you read you should be just fine." Corey had said reassuringly making Y/n nod with a smile before Corey had asked a question.

"Yeah, so. Tell me more about you." Corey said, closing the book on the desk and putting it away in her backpack.
