Unexpected turns

Lucas' POV
I finally find Maya and she's soaked in rain and looks like she's shivering. I ran upto her and as soon as she sees me I see relief in her eyes.
"Maya what are you doing here?"
"I got off then I realised I ran too far. I don't know this area and then it started raining. I'm sorry I know everyone must be worried. My phone's battery is dead."
"Oh thank god you're ok. I know you panicked and got off but please never do that again. Josh came with me to look for you."
"Why?"
"I'll explain later. First take this."
I hand her my jacket because she's freezing and I immediately hug her.
"Thanks Lucas."
"Hey I'd rather you call me huckleberry ok. I don't want anything else to change."
To be fair I always let her call me names. And now I'm used to them. Unless it's really serious she never uses my name. And I don't want this to be one of those situations.
I'm feeling something weird when I'm hugging her. I don't know what this feeling is but I don't let her go.
"Hey huckleberry you can let me go now. We should go back."
I realised I've hugged her for too long and I'm feeling embarrassed.
We reach to the station and find Josh. He sees us and immediately hugs Maya.
"Maya are you crazy? You got us all so worried. And please let me explain everything as soon as we reach Cory's house. Ok?"
She gives a small nod with a smile. And we all decide to go to Riley's house.

Maya's POV

Wow. Lucas and Josh came for me and I've never seen both of them so worried. We got on the subway and we rode quietly until Lucas saw how much I was shivering even after wearing his jacket. He immediately puts his arm around me and rub my back and arms. I feel a little better and I see Josh having a concerned look on his face. He's just a friend and Josh was probably going out with someone. Why did he care? Maya c'mon you haven't heard the full story stop overthinking.
Lucas is holding onto me a little more than normal. I felt something even when he hugged me in the rain. Uhh I need to stop overthinking.

Riley's House

As soon as I enter I see lots of worried faces. Even Shawn I mean my dad and mom is here. I'm still not used to calling him dad. Though everytime I do, I smile.

Everyone starts speaking at once and I'm so confused so I laugh.

"Maya what's so funny?" Dad asks with concern.
" I'm sorry dad but can you guys speak one at a time. I know you were worried and I'll explain but please can I change first? I'm freezing."
Lucas, josh and I come back after changing and Topanga gives us hot soup.

After I explain everything, they all relax a bit. Although I was scolded but I feel nice there are so many people who care about me.
"You guys go to Riley's room and relax. I don't think anyone can go outside for a while. This storm is really getting worse. You guys got here on time Maya." Topanga tells everyone.
I'm relieved I'm here and with everyone I care for.
But josh has some explanation to give and it's time to hear it.
He and I are alone on the bay window and everyone else is having a conversation. I think I saw Lucas trying to get a sneak peak of our conversation but that's just me overthinking.

"So josh tell me."
"Maya she's my classmate and I don't like her that way. I refused you know. If you stayed a little longer you'd know. But I understand I'm in college and it must have felt bad. So..."
"So????"
He speaks loudly this time for everyone to hear.
"I don't wanna play long game anymore." What?? He doesn't like me?
"Why? You don't like me ?"
"I do. That's why. I want you to be my girlfriend. You're 17 anyway now."
Everyone is as shocked as I am. I grin as I speak.
"Well in that case I'd like to be your girlfriend."
I see everyone smiling except Lucas. Oh no. He just broke up with Riley. I should've done this privately.
Riley being Riley gives me a hug.
"Yayyyyy you finally have a boyfriend. But you're not my aunt." I laugh.
"I can't hear you padapadada..."
She smiles. I smile.
"Thunder"
"Lightning"

Riley's POV

My best friend has a boyfriend yayyy. If only I hadn't broken up with Lucas we could've gone on double dates. But I think I did the right thing. Maya comes up to me with a concerned look on her face.
"Riles you should talk to Lucas. He's really upset look at him. You need to talk ok?"
"Yeah peaches I will. I really didn't get a chance you know."
I sit next to Lucas on the bay window. I will have to start this conversation.
"Hey."
"Hi"
"How are you?"
"How do you think I am? You broke up with me."
"Lucas I've told you this once that we'll always be in each other's lives forever. We don't need to be boyfriend and girlfriend for that."
"I understand but what went so wrong. I mean I show one different side of me and now you don't like me anymore?"
"No Lucas. You're still one of my best friends. We've just grown. Unfortunately grown apart. You were scared to show me this side of yours but weren't scared to show that to Maya. I don't wanna be in a relationship where someone can't trust me. I understand why you didn't and that's why I understand we need to end this before something bad happens and we lose each other."
He's not saying anything now. Is he mad? Does he want to be friends or not? I can't believe I hurt him. We sit there in silence for a few minutes until he speaks up.
"Ok Riley I understand. I mean it'll take time for me to process this. But if you, the most optimistic person in the world feels like this won't work then I sure as hell don't wanna lose you as my friend. So... we can be friends."
He's such a nice guy.
"You'll always be my first boyfriend."
"You'll always be my first girlfriend."
We both smile.
