I woke to muffled voices, I tried to open my eyes and couldn't. The voices became clearer but I found I couldn't move either.
"Expelled and arrested, she should be both. My baby daughter could have died!" A high-pitched annoying voice screeched, by the sound, it was the twin's mum.
"Now Caroline, I am the Principal and I decide. Plus, if you go to the police then I will have to inform them what Bianca did to a fellow student. Now, wait outside please," Grandma D defended and I heard a door slam.
Then I heard the door open and the familiar voice of Aunt Sam, "Is she awake yet?"
"No, but should be in a matter of minutes. Well, if she's anything like me when I was her age," Grandma D replied.
"Caroline is pacing outside, it's weird to see her again. I haven't seen her since school," Aunt Sam said.
I could suddenly open my eyes, I opened them to a terrifying sight. Grandma D was still wearing perfectly clean clothes but she had bags under her eyes and looked exhausted. Aunt Sam was in sweats and her hair was a mess. She too had bags under her eyes and her eyes were bloodshot from crying. I must have scared them a lot for them to look like this.
"Hey," I whispered
"Rose, you're awake," Aunt Sam screamed and hugged me tightly.
"Can't....breath," I wheezed and Aunt Sam let me go.
"Are you ok?" Grandma D asked concerned.
"I'm fine," I replied automatically.
"What happened? What caused this incident?" Grandma D asked formally.
"She was beating Lexi who couldn't stand up for herself. Lexi would have died if she continued, so I stopped it. She deserved it anyway, I... I didn't kill her, did I?" I shrugged.
"Do you know what made her attack Lexi? We asked her and Bree but they both said they don't know why," Grandma D asked.
"No idea," I lied.
"I'll have to suspend you both for a week," Grandma D explained.
Suddenly Bianca sat up and screeched, "She's a liar! Her and Lexi wrote on my face."
"Bianca there is nothing on your face," Grandma D said softly.
"There is," she yelled.
"Crazy Bianca," I taunted.
"Rose," Aunt Sam warned.
I shut my mouth and laid back down on my bed. I knew someone wiped the pen off her face and I'm guessing it was Aunt Sam. Bianca was now in tears whispering 'I am not crazy' to herself. I was suddenly hit with a wave of guilt, I caused this. Sure, she was horrible but she didn't deserve to think she's crazy. I got out of the bed I was in and walked over to her. When she saw me getting closer, she cowered away in fear. I stopped for a second and then hugged her. She melted into the hug and cried into my shoulder. I looked to see Grandma D smiling proudly and Aunt Sam looking shocked.
"I'm so sorry I wrote that. You're not crazy," I whispered so only she could hear.
"Never tell anyone about this or else," she hissed and pushed me away.
"Right well you two will be serving 3 days of interschool suspension with Professor Carmon and then 2 weeks of detention. Now go back to your dorms and no more fighting," Grandma D instructed and we walked back to our dorm in silence.
I went to open the door but she rushed in before me and locked the door. I sat down leaning against the wall and closed my eyes. I heard the door open and Lexi came out, she had black eyes and bruises everywhere. I gave her a small smile as she sat down next to me.
"Crap day," she mumbled and I put my head on her shoulder.
"Crap life," I replied and we fell asleep in that position.
I woke up with a bad backache and a horrible headache. Ugh, I'm suspended. I woke up Lexi and we stood up still half asleep. We knocked and knocked on the door, soon enough they would let us in. After 5 minutes of pounding on the door, it opened to an annoyed-looking Bianca.
"Now you're going to be late. Ha, ha!" Bianca laughed and left the dorm.
"Crybaby," I muttered under my breath.
I went into the room and got changed into a clean uniform. I then fixed my hair and said goodbye to Lexi before heading to Professor Carmon's classroom. I reached the classroom and Bianca was waiting outside tapping her foot as Grandma D did. The door opened and Professor Carmon stepped out.
She had a scowl on her face but it softened when she saw me. She let us in and there were two desks with pen and paper. Bianca picked them up and moved to the back of the room. I sat down at the front and waited for instructions.
"Write a 1000 word essay about your saddest memory," Professor Carmon instructed and I picked up my pen and started writing.
Flashback: 3 years ago
"Darling Rosie, would you come with me to the lake?" Mum called.
She was in a bikini and her black hair flowed down her back. A towel was wrapped around her shoulders and her necklace was on her neck, like always. Her eyes twinkled like Grandma D's.
"Nah, I'm reading. Have fun," I mumbled not taking my eyes off my book.
"Ok, I love you. Here hold this, I don't want to lose it while I'm swimming," Mum said and handed me her necklace.
I looked at her confused but she was already walking out. I clasped the necklace around my neck so I couldn't lose it. It felt good like it was supporting me. Oh, I forgot to say I love you. I ran out of my house and saw her walking down the road. She looked like an angel.
"I love you Mum," I yelled and went back inside to start a movie.
1 week later
"She's been missing for a week! A week! What if she's dead?" I screamed at Aunt Sam.
She had been looking after me for the past week and if Mum is dead forever, she's my legal guardian and my favourite relative. The rest either hate me or ignore me. Except I suppose her and Grandma D, who is always at her school and whom I never see.
"It'll be ok Rosie," Aunt Sam soothed.
"Don't call me Rosie, only Mum can call me that. My name's Rose now," I yelled and the doorbell rang.
I walked to the door and there stood two police officers. Their expressions were grim and filled with pity. Just like that, I knew my mum was dead.
"She drowned," the officer told me breaking my heart.
"Did you find her body?" I asked tears streaking my face.
"No, but you need to realize that she's dead. I am sorry for your loss," the other officer said gently.
"I will take care of you now," Aunt Sam whispered.
