Chapter Six: The Start of a Tragedy

After the three left, nagpatuloy na kami na maglinis ng bahay at mag-ayos ng mga gamit sa sala at kusina. Neither of us brought up the topic about Tanner but thinking about it makes me pissed. Akala ko pa naman mabuting tao si Tanner. Tyaka matagal na yon. 'Di na dapat yon ipamukha sa amin iyon but he still rubbed it in on our faces.

Hindi ko nalang pinansin yung nararamdaman kong galit kaya inisip ko ang plano namin ni Kei. Excited na ako para sa bagong chapter ng buhay namin. Excited na akong makasama siya sa bahay namin sa America.

We got ready for bed ngunit bago kami makatulog, may nagmessage sakin na unknown number nanaman.

"the game begins in a matter of minutes. better watch out"

Hindi ko nalang ito pinansin at binura ang message kasi isa nanaman ito sa mga batang nagloloko sa number ko tulad noon. Laging bata ang tumatawag kasi sakin. But I noticed that these texts are getting weirder and weirder every time. Pero hinahayaan ko na rin kasi marami pa akong mas mahalagang problema. I don't want to waste my time on a kid's prank call.

Humiga na ako at tinignan si Kei habang nag-aayos s'ya ng kanyang buhok. Ang ganda talaga n'ya. 'Di ako magsasawang sabihan siya ng maganda at mahal ko siya kasi gusto kong maramdaman niya na deserve niya ang pagmamahal despite our mistakes.

"Babe, natapunan pala ako ng juice kanina. Maghihilamos muna ako." Sambit ni Kei.

I nodded and got my phone. Naglaro ako ng kaunting candy crush kasi why not. Kei came back fresh from the shower and started rummaging through our drawer for eveningwear. Nagsuot ito ng ternong silk top and pajamas. Tumabi na ito sa akin and I inhaled her scent. She always smelled like lavender because it's her favorite smell and color.

Umayos na siya ng higa and we stared into each other's eyes. She is just gorgeous. Unti-unti na akong nakaramdam ng pagod at antok at nagsimula nang mamikit ang mga mata ko.

I was already half asleep when Kei's phone suddenly rang. Narinig kong tumayo si Kei at sinagot ang tawag.

"Hello?" Kei greets, "A-ate, bakit ka umiiyak?"

"Ate, anong nangyayari? May problema ba?"

There was a brief silence then Kei replied. "Anong nangyari sa kanila?!" Rinig ko ang sobrang pag-aalala sa kanyang boses.

Biglang nabitawan ni Kei ang kanyang hawak na cellphone sa sahig. Bigla akong bumangon at tumakbo papunta sa kanya. Tiningnan ko siya na unti-unti nang napapaluha. Hinawakan ko ang mukha neto at tinitigan ko ang mga mata niya.

"Baby, anong nangyari?" I asked worriedly.

She looked at me with teary eyes as her body shook vigorously. "J-Jace. S-si m-mama at si p-p-papa. Naaks-sidente." And that's when she broke down sobbing into my shirt.

I stared into the unknown. I was shocked. It took me a while to process what was happening. "We have to go to the hospital!" Sigaw ni Kei. "Kailangan natin silang makita! Kailangan kong malaman gaano kalala sitsasyon. Babe tara na."

I quickly nodded and got my car keys. My phone dinged and I unlocked it to see a message from another anonymous number.

"BKEKTKTKEKRKWKAKTKCKHKSOKUKTK

-K"

I cursed under my breath and clenched my fist. Wrong timing kid. I blocked the number and turned my phone off. I looked up at Kei to see her worried and broken expression. "Let's go."

I checked my phone one more time and went down. Pumunta kami sa garahe at binuksan ang gate gamit ang controller sa kotse. Binuhay ko na ang makina ng kotse at mayroon akong nakitang papel na nakaipit sa wipers ko. I got out of the car and unfolded it.

"yhuwor fhwhahmhihilee hihsh hnHehxtz. Tkhekykh chovherh mhisuhthur."

I groaned and crumpled the paper and threw it across the garage aggressively. "Ano yon?" Kei asks worriedly as I entered the car.

Nagreverse na ako at saka nagmaneho patungo sa ospital. Anger rushed through me as theories run through my head. I explained everything to Kei and she started sobbing again. She was shaking so badly but all I could do is tell her that everything's gonna be okay. My hands once more tightened around the steering wheel and I could see my knuckles whiten in the dim light. Minutes felt like hours as the time ticked.

Deep inside me, I felt like those messages were connected. I really feel like this is connected. But I shook it off because it just gives me chills. Kailangan kong magfocus sa pagmamaneho.

We reached the hospital and ran straight to the emergency room. Alam ko ang pasikot-sikot ng ospital dahil nurse dito si Luna. Dati tinotour ako dito ni Luna kapag nakabreak siya kaya medyo saulo ko pa yung mga daanan dito.

Si Luna at si Kendra ay merong 4-year age gap. 21 si nanay Lydia nang ipanganak si Luna at 25 nung ipanganak si Kendra kaya bata bata pa si nanay Lydia. I though, am two years older than Kendra and two years younger than Luna. In the middle to be exact. Pero kaya ko nakilala noon si Luna ay dahil sa 'di akalaing pangyayari.

And that is because of my stupid high-school reputation which I needed to keep at the time which I partially regret. Being the so-called 'Bad Boy' just makes me cringe.

Meeting Luna is a memory that will be stuck in my head forever.
