As Derek opened his mouth to question his kidnapper, the very person he was about to ask about came waltzing into the room. His eyes widened as he took in her perfect posture and the way the atmosphere in the room seemed to completely shift. It was apparent, without her even uttering a word, that she was always in complete control of herself... and very aware of her surroundings. Her eyes moved swiftly to the spot where Derek stood, and as she looked at him, her gaze combing over his features, Derek couldn't help but feel very insignificant compared to this highly respectably, yet obviously authoritative woman.

"Oh... I see we have a guest." She said, glancing quickly to Derek's kidnapper, who stood in the corner with an apprehensive expression on her face, before turning back to face Derek again. "You must be Brian. I didn't think you were coming."

"Brian?" Derek frowned.

"I'm not surprised, really." She said, ignoring the frown on Derek's face. "I don't usually get informed about much." She said stepping forward towards Derek and offering her hand. "I'm-"

"Dr. Ellis Grey." Derek finished for her.

"Oh, I see Meredith has told you about me. That's the first." Ellis replied, glancing quickly at his kidnapper and then back at Derek. "My daughter is just full of surprises." She said as she shook Derek's hand.

Derek glanced at his kidnapper, who he now knew, was not only named Meredith, but was the daughter of the infamous Dr. Ellis Grey. He took in her slightly shocked expression at the fact that he knew her mother's name. He almost wanted to laugh at the way her eyes widened as she watched the exchange before her. But, she wasn't the only one with surprises, was she?

"Yes, Dr. Grey. Meredith is full of surprises." He said, as he shook her hand, his eyes never leaving Meredith's as he smirked a little. He turned his attention back to Ellis as he prepared to give Meredith a surprise of his own. "It's very nice to meet you, Dr. Grey, but I'm not Brian. I'm Dr. Derek Shepherd, head of Neurology at New York General."

"Oh." Ellis replied, looking a bit perplexed. "Forgive my mistake. I was under the impression Meredith was coming alone. I had no idea she was bringing one of her professors with her." Ellis said, casting Meredith a hardened look. "She certainly is full of surprises."

"He's.. not my professor, mom." Meredith finally spoke. "He's just...."

She was cut off when the pager at Ellis' waist sounded. "Excuse me." She said, pulling the pager from her waist. "It's the hospital. I'll probably have to go in. Meredith, we'll talk about this later." She said sternly as she hurried from the room.

"So, you're name is Meredith." Derek stated as soon as Ellis left the room.

"Shut up."

"And you're Ellis Grey's daughter." He said, a look of disbelief flashing across his face as he shook his head at her.

"Shut up." Meredith said again.

"She thought I was some Brian person. Who is Brian? Your boyfriend?" He asked, shoving his hands into his pockets.

"That's none of your business." Meredith spat at him.

"And then she thought I was your professor!" Derek said in a fierce whisper. "How old are you, exactly?"

"That's not important!" She replied, crossing her arms over her chest.

"Oh, but I think it is." Derek said stubbornly.

Meredith turned and glared at him. "OK. What part of shut up did you not understand?" She hissed.

"I'm just trying to figure all of this out." Derek said.

"There's nothing to figure out!" Meredith yelled as she stepped forward and yanked the picture out of Derek's hands. She placed the frame back onto the shelf and then grabbed his wrist as she pulled him into the foyer and towards the stairs.

"Where are we going now, Ms. Bright Idea?" He asked sarcastically as he allowed her to pull him up the stairs again.

"Just shut up, and come on!" She ordered as she dragged him into her bedroom and slammed the door shut. She pushed him onto the bed and in a second flat, Derek felt the cold metal of the handcuffs as she secured him to the bed post again. He scowled at her as he looked up and watched her pace back and forth at the foot of the bed.
