Genevieve
Have you ever been grateful for some nonstop chattering?
Honestly, I have never been. I mean, how could I when I like silence so much? Maybe not always, but I mostly prefer a calm, serene and peaceful atmosphere.
But right now - sitting in a car with Jasper Evans, my best friend since like forever and not to mention, who I kinda ditched for almost three years - I am so thankful for Julie Mom and my mom's talkative mood.
For the whole drive they have been chattering - or catching up for that matter, as Julie Mom puts it - like they had been away for ages, while I kept my gaze staring out of the window to the passing familiar scenario. I missed this city.
But even though, they're doing the talk and keeping the atmosphere not so silent and awkward, the tension is still evident. And I'm sure all of us can sense it equally.
Through the drive I haven't got the courage to even glance at Jasper, but I felt him glancing at me once, only once.
"So, I was thinking that it would be very nice of you guys to join us for the breakfast today. What do you think, An?" Julie Mom asks mom. I turn my head to look at them through the rearview mirror.
"Oh, no, no! Please not. We have already gave you so much trouble by waking you up so early." My mom says, while throwing me a look through the mirror.
"I wouldn't like it if you tire yourself anymore just because of us. Please don't bother." She continues with a concerned tone."Hey, it's not tiring myself! It's called getting worked up for my lovelies' arrival. How could you say that?" Julie Mom says feigning offense.
"I missed you guys too much, so my enthusiasm isn't anything wrong for my health. And, I want to spend as much time as I can with you, so don't refuse.""Well... I'm not that hungry right now and I'm sure Genevieve won't be too. We ate in the flight. We both would just like to take some rest. And if we fell asleep the lunch would get late anyways." Mom tries to reason.
"So..., how about we come for dinner at yours?""Sounds like a great plan!" Julie Mom squeals, clapping her hands.
"So it's a date then." She finishes with a wink and offering her hand to mom for a shake.Really? A date?
Mom smiles at her, then takes her hand, shaking it in a business manner.
"It's a date." She says with a slight wink. They both are really some unique pieces.
But...
Stop!
Wait what?
We? Means Mom and me are going for dinner at Jasper's? Tonight?
No way!
There is no away I'm gonna spend my first day back in so many awkward situations. One awkward drive is enough for today.
I can't take all the load at once. This is horrible.
How can mom do this? I need time, for God's sake!
I feel the inner panic rising inside me, because there is no way I can get out of it.
As I keep pondering on the matter, I don't notice the car coming to a halt, until I hear the click sounds of the car doors opening.
I turn my head only to see Jasper's back as he gets out of the car. My mom and Julie Mom afterwards. I unbuckle my seatbelt and get out of the car, closing the door.
