Chapter 9 - The same fragrance

After the meal, which Yibo found very tasty, even though it was not cooked by a real human, the servant served him a nightcap. Actually, he never drank such a thing. But because he was a guest in this house, he accepted the nightcap and drank it.

After Zhan took him back upstairs to his room and Yibo lay down on his bed, the sleepless night and all the excitement he had that day made itself felt and he became very tired. He assumed this nightcap also contributed to that.

He felt how he seemed to relax more and more. The previously still wild thoughts in his head became quieter and quieter. Very slowly he drifted into a heavy but relaxed sleep. His last thought before he finally fell asleep was dedicated to Zhan. I hope Zhan is really a friend and not an enemy. And then he fell asleep.

In the meantime, Zhan's parents returned from a trip to the human world. Now that they have a human guest in the castle, they wanted to get a few things that humans need. Drinks, food and clothes.

Excitedly, Zhan told them how his day with Yibo had been. Even though they hadn't spent much time together yet, Zhan's narration made it seem like they had already spent years together. Zhan's mother laughed happily and Zhan's father nodded every now and then, rubbing his chin. When he heard that Yibo was an assassin, he thought of a certain day in the past.

Zhan's parents know that even though their son is already 200 years old, he has always remained a child inside. They are afraid that their son might get hurt and then lose his loving and playful nature.

People had already tried to hurt him once. At that time, he was only a few years old when people in the village found out that the Xiao family were not humans, but vampires. In the absence of Zhan's parents, they grabbed Zhan who was swinging in the evening darkness in the moonlight and kidnapped him. They tied him to a tree. They wanted to wait for the sun to rise so they could watch him burn in the sunlight.

Fortunately, he was found just in time by an assassin who was actually only in the village because he had been ordered to kill the village leader. He saw that the villagers were gathered around a tree, loudly bawling for the vampire brat to burn.

The assassin saw the boy and would not let anything happen to the little vampire boy. He killed all the villagers who had gathered there, wrapped the frightened Zhan in his coat and took him home, where his parents were already desperately looking for him.

Zhan's parents were overjoyed to have their son back and thanked the assassin. They were astonished to discover that this assassin, who introduced himself as Wang Han, was one of the descendants of Wang Flora. This was the turning point for Zhan's father. The day he decided to do everything and leave no stone unturned to remove the curse he brought upon Wang Flora and her descendants.

To this day, Zhan has no memory of that night when he was kidnapped and almost died if Wang Han, an assassin and descendant of Wang Flora, had not saved him. And that very story, they told Zhan that night.

When Zhan heard the story, his excitement was gone. He sat quietly and after a few minutes asked, "So they wanted to expose me to the sun? I was just a child! How could they do that to me?"

Zhan's father put his arms around his son and said, "That's exactly why I told you humans are bad. But because your guest is an assassin, he is welcome to stay with us as long as he likes."

"My dear son. Do you see your friend with different eyes now?" Asked his mom.

"No, I don't. I feel that Yibo is someone very special and I want to be friends with him. If that's what he wants." Replied Zhan.

"I thought you might like him more as a friend?" Wanted to know his mom.

"Well mom, that's true. But I don't think Yibo is interested in men. And besides, he's a human isn't he? Humans and vampires..."
