Carmen’s P.O.V
I stood right in front of Linx’s front door. My hand made no attempt to reach up and knock on the brown color door before me. Instead, I stood there frozen spot, staring blankly at the door. Almost hoping that with some mind power it would open for me. Knowing that was a useless thought, I just stood there some more.
Maybe it was a mistake coming here, I finally thought. After all, this is Linx and maybe his note in class was a practical joke. He never really wanted me to come here. It was just aimless flirting and joking around. And of course, in coming here, it shows how head over heels I am for him.
Taking in a deep breath, I sighed. My mind replayed the note over and over in my head.
Munchkin,
Come to my house, tonight and I will prove to you I am the sexiest and interesting person ever...
Huffing, I shook my head ... I shouldn’t be here. No, this is a very bad idea...
Turning my heels, I prepared to walk away, but suddenly the front door opened. “Munchkin, there you are! I have been waiting for you!” Linx’s all too happy voice stated from the door frame.
I shook my head and twisted around to face him. “Is ... Is Sapphire here?” I asked, acting as if I was coming here for her.
Linx smiled at me which made my heart flutter.
Oh, hot damn, I need to remember to cuss out Jasmine when I get home! Like I have stated before, this all her fault! Putting these thoughts in my mind that he might like me, making me form feelings for him.
Just shoot me now!
Shaking his black haired head at me, Linx replied to me. “No, I think she might be at Alicia’s house.”
Furrowing an eyebrow, I knew that wasn’t true, because Alicia had volleyball practice after school. Plus, she and Alicia were on bad terms after the fight today at lunch. So there is no way they would be hanging out just yet. Biting my own tongue, I figuring Sapphire was doing her own thing.
“Well ... bye then,” I said in a voice that was way more chipper than I wanted. Unwillingly my feet headed towards my car as I mentally cursed myself for even coming here. It was without a shadow of a doubt a mistake.
“Carmen! Wait! Where do you think you are going?” Linx asked me as he ran in front of me, stopping my attempt to enter my car.
“I think I’ll just ... uh, go home,” I exclaimed in a mouse like voice.
With a wide grin he closed the driver door I’d opened and gripped me by the wrist, “oh come on Munchkin. We both know very well that you did not come for Sapphire; you came because of the note. Now, please follow me,” Linx said dragging me behind him. “It’s time to show you how awesome I am!” With that said he pulled me on the porch, and opened the front door. “Carmen, I believe I was going to show you how sexy I am.”
“Linx, I think it would be wise if-”
Letting go of me and turning around in the middle of the living room Linx looked at me with a teasing grin. Suddenly, he removed his shirt, showing his six-pack. He eyes looked at me with curiosity. “Sexy, right?”
My eyes -- body -- wanted nothing more than to ogle at him all day. But, I knew I needed to stay strong because he didn’t like me or at least that is what I was trying to convince myself. After all I couldn’t even fathom the idea of us being together. The mere idea of how it might break Sapphire and I’s friendship up makes me want to cringe. This worry all stems from a teen gossip magazine I read. It had a section about girl codes, and right next to the girl code of not dating your best friend's ex, was do not date your best friend's brother. “Do you have a bag I can puke in because that is repulsive,” I lied through my teeth. As I tried to turn my mind off of the ramped thoughts of Linx and me dating.
Linx gave me a disappointed look. “You think I look repulsive?” The look planted on his face make me instantly feel bad.
“Oh, I .... Uhhh...” I looked away, feeling completely awkward. With buzzing thoughts I wondered if it was okay to tell him he looked very hot. No, I can’t do that ... It would just make this more awkward... “I can’t ... you know...”
Link’s arms dropped to his side as he nearly stared a hole through me.
I cleared my throat and shifted from one foot to the other.
“You can’t? You can’t what? Can’t show interest in me? Can’t admit I am smoking hot? Why do you not like me?”
I couldn’t bring myself to look up into his eyes, for I couldn’t bring myself to realize this was actually happening.
“Okay ... Carmen, we’re not going to get anywhere if you clam up on me now.” Linx said in a voice that was teasing and yet serious at the same time.
I still kept quiet, trying to figure out what exactly I was going to say. I didn’t want to tell him I liked him, because I had two huge hurdles in my way. One: he could be joking around with me. Just trying to get me to say I like him. It seems like something he would do, after all Linx loves teasing people. Second hurdle: Sapphire, I would need her approval so I don’t feel guilty about breaking the girl code.
“Oh, I got it. Are you worried that I don’t have feelings for you? If that’s it then you have nothing to worry about. I like you Munchkin,” Linx whisper in my ear.
My stomach did a complete belly flop as my head whipped up to stare at him. I’d never seen such a serious face on anyone before, let alone Linx. We stared at each other for what seemed like hours before I broke contact feeling more frustrated than I had a couple minutes ago. The reason why ... why I was still refusing him was still there even though he had confessed. I bit my lip, and my eyebrows scrunched over my troubled eyes.
Suddenly, I felt Linx’s hands grab me by the shoulders. Only then did I realize he was standing right in front of me, shirtless and all. “Munchkin, what is it? Why are you still frozen up? I thought you would be happy I like you... I thought you liked me too...”
I looked up Linx’s tall body and locked my troubled eyes with his imploring ones. “I-I like you too ... but ... but ... I don’t...” I looked down at my nails that I was now fiddling with.
Linx’s hand knocked my chin up to bring my face up to look at him again. “Tell me what’s bothering you,” He said firmly.
I squeezed my eyes shut and forced myself to say, “Sapphire is my friend.” I was too afraid of the look Linx was giving me to open my eyes.
His silence didn’t help one bit. “So? That doesn’t explain anything Carmen.”
I bit my bottom lip, “you’re her brother.”
“Munchkin, please, I don’t understand why you’re bringing up Sapphire. Yes, of course, I’m her brother! But, she’s got nothing to do with us!” I felt his hands clutch my shoulders harder and he even shook me a little.
My lips trembled as I finally made my mouth formed the next sentence. “We ... we should get Sapphire’s permission,” I whispered.
Linx was totally still and I still had my eyes tightly shut, too much of a coward to open them and see the expression Linx was wearing although it was killing me.
Then I felt his arms release me suddenly. “Damn it Carmen, you’re driving me crazy!”
I slowly opened my eyes to see he was picking up his discarded T-shirt from the living room. His broad back was exposed and his muscles bunched and rolled underneath his tanned skin. I wanted nothing more for this heavenly guy to be mine. But Sapphire was my best friend. I needed her approval or I would feel totally wrong.
“Are you ... Are you mad at me?” I asked once he got on his shirt.
Turning to face me, Linx smiled. “No, Munchkin, I am not mad at you. A little frustrated that is all ... Need me to drive you to Alicia’s?” He questioned.
“Alicia’s? I have no reason to go there,” I told Linx as I walked farther into his living room. Sitting down on the couch, I looked up at him.
Linx shook his head at me with a grin, before walking around and sitting right next to me on the couch. “Sapphire is at Alicia’s. I thought I could take you over to Alicia’s so you can get the approval you are looking for.”
Scratching the side of my head, I exhaled loudly. I was thinking, hard.
Sapphire was not at Alicia’s ... if we were to go there then Linx would find out ... oh dear mum, I am getting nervous ... “Do you have any food?” I asked as I started to wring my hands.
“Food,” he chuckled. “Yeah, what are you hungry for?” Linx asked as he got off the couch and headed towards the kitchen.
Getting up, I followed him. “I am not hungry for anything in particular. Just hungry,” I replied as I started to get my mind off of the lie I was going to have to throw at Linx.
“Okay, I can make you a sandwich. You can eat it in the car.”
“In the car?”
“Yeah, as we are headed to Alicia’s.”
I nervously bit my bottom lip. “I hate eating in cars, I rather eat here. Hey, don’t be stingy with the mayo,” I stated as he started to spread someone the wheat nut bread.
Linx stopped his actions and looked at me. “Carmen, you have that look. What is going on?”
“Look? What look?”
“Like you are seconds from dying. What are you hiding?” Linx asked me.
“My favorite color is purple,” I blurted out.
Resting the mayo spreader on the bread, Linx crossed his arms over his chest. “Come on Munchkin, spit it out. What are you hiding?”
“Your shoes are untied,” I proclaimed.
The second Linx looked down at his feet; I dashed out of the room. I was in full panic mood, which was evident as I started to run circles in the living room.
“Carmen, stop running circles, and tell me what is on your mind.”
Slowing my pace, I glanced at him. “You will be mad,” I exclaimed.
Linx walked over to me, and placed his hands on my shoulder, stopping me. He sea foam green eyes bore into me. For a moment I thought the guy could see into. His eyes suddenly got a lot closer as he bent his head down towards mine. Abruptly I felt his hot breath fan my face, “Carmen speak.”
My lips parted to allow words to come out, but I was soundless as I stood there jelly legged and in awe.
A smile cracked up on his lips. “Now, now little Munchkin, don’t get clamed up on me again. Here I thought we were getting somewhere,” he teased. Without warning Linx brushed his lips across mine.
Next thing I knew I was roping my hands around the back of his neck, pulling him closer. Our mouth met with a heated passion. It was then that I knew there was no turning back when it came to Linx; I was in for the win.
Pulling apart from me, Linx smiled wildly. “Wow, where did you learn to kiss like that?” Linx asked me.
Deciding not to answer, I get rested my head on his forehead.
“How about this, Munchkin, you tell me your secret, and I promise you a date. Deal?” Linx questioned as he put his arms around my waist, pushing our bodies together.
My jelly legs gave out a tad, but Linx held me up with a smile that clearly meant he knew the effect he had on me.
“Deal,” I said without thinking.
Kissing me on my forehead, Linx awaited my confession.
“Sapphire ... she is not at Alicia’s,” I admitted.
Looking down at me, Linx arched an eyebrow. “Not at Alicia’s ... well, where else could she be? ... Oh no, she is not a Blake’s is she?! We agreed that she wouldn’t go there. Oh, wait! What if he wormed his way back into her heart?! Shit!”
“Linx, calm down. I am pretty sure she is just -- Linx! Where are you going?!” I asked as he started to dash out of the living room.
“I’m changing my shoes, and going to go find Sapphire.”
“What about my sandwich?!” I asked as I chased after him.

“Did you bring some chips?” I asked Linx as I fished through the brown sack that he put together for me.
Turning down a street Linx chuckled, “Yes Munchkin, there is some chips in there for you. I wouldn’t dream of forgetting them after you yelled at me not to pack apple juice, that you had to have grape juice.” Linx joked as he pulled the car into Blake’s driveway.
“You can’t have apple juice with a roast beef sandwich! Grape juice is the best with it! Ham is the kind of sandwich that tastes good with apple juice. Come on, that is common knowledge,” I told him.
Placing his hands in a surrendering motion like before, Linx shook his head at me. “I will not argue about this with you. After all you are the Food Monster and you know more about food then I do.”
“Are you calling me fat? I feel as if there was a fat reference in there,” I told him.
“No, Munchkin that was not a fat reference.”
Looking down at my tummy I rubbed it, “don’t worry, he might think you are fat, but I get your hunger.”
“Munchkin, you are not fat. Now, come on, time we find my sister and go on that date!” Linx said as he opened his car door and raced over to mine. Opening it, he waited for me to get out, which by the way I took my sweet time. That is what he got for calling me fat.
Reaching the door, Linx knocked a few times. Silence consumed us as we waited for someone to answer.
After a few long seconds, the door opened, revealing Blake. “Linx, Carmen ... what are you guys doing here?”
“Where is my sister?” Linx asked as he got straight to the point.
Blake leaned on the door frame and shook his head. “I have no idea where she is. Though, I did see her leave the school this afternoon on the back of a motorcycle. Do you know who the guy is?”
Linx balled up his fist, “a motorcycle? She -- she -- oh my, I am going to kill that girl,” Linx bitterly spat as he pulled out his cell phone and headed towards the car.****
