The ride from Scott's house and toward Lydia's had been awfully quiet and it worried Diana to no end. Whenever the two girls were in the car together, there was always something going on. Either it'd be Lydia complaining about Jackson or Diana describing in detail on of the gossips she heard that day from whatever friend of hers she had sitting beside her during English or just the two of them jamming out to the songs that came up from the playlist they had made together for car drives around town, the car was never silent.
But, this time, it was and, as much as Diana knew why and as much as she knew Lydia was still upset with her about the day she had promised to call her as soon as possible when she found her crying alone in her car but, after the Kanima attack, she had literally forgotten about it, Diana couldn't help but ask of her best friend yet another favor, even though she feared she might hate her for it.
"I need you to promise that you won't say anything about what just happened." She told Lydia, as soon as she parked her car outside Lydia's house and turned to look at her.
"I'll promise not to say anything about what just happened if you can tell me what the hell just happened..." Lydia demanded, as Diana sighed.
"It's-it's kind of complicated." She said.
"Well, how about you start with why was Derek there?" She demanded. "Or where Jackson was? Or what is wrong with Erica?"
Diana sighed, knowing those were very much valid questions and knowing full well Lydia had been feeling left out and confused over the past couple of days, but if she knew... If she knew everything that Diana knew, what would happen to her? She would end up being caught up in this whole mess and that was the last thing Diana wanted.
"Oh, do you need a minute to come up with a plausible lie?" Lydia asked, her tone so malicious it made Diana visibly flinch.
"Look... Part of the reason why I'm asking is because Scott and Allison aren't supposed to be seeing each other, okay?" She said, which wasn't really a lie. "So, it's better if you just keep what you know to yourself."
"Fine." Lydia scoffed. "I'll keep what I know about Allison and her boyfriend - which is nothing - to myself."
Reaching for the handle of the car door, Lydia made motion of leaving, but, before she could, Diana reached over to her and placed a hand on her arm.
"Hey..." She called, as gently as she could, as Lydia sighed, but stopped moving to turn around and look at Diana. "He's not just her boyfriend. You get that, right?"
"Let me go." Lydia spat, as Diana sighed.
"Just, for one second..." She pleaded, trying to get Lydia to promise not to say anything to anyone even if Diana didn't give her the explanation she had been wanting from her. "Please, try and remember..."
"Remember what?"
"Remember what it feels like..." Diana said. "All those times in school when you see them standing down the hall, and you cannot breathe until you're with them. Or those times in class when you-you can't stop looking at the clock, because you know that they're standing right out there waiting for you. Don't you remember what that's like?"
"No." Lydia choked as she held back a few tears, as Diana frowned.
"What do you mean, No?" Diana frowned. "You've had boyfriends."
"None like that." Lydia whispered, holding back her tears as she looked back at Diana. "But you sound like you talk from experience even though you've never had a boyfriend."
"Yeah..." Diana whispered, finally looking away from Lydia as she gripped the steering wheel in front of her tightly.
"Have you ever felt like that?" Lydia asked, her voice sounding softer than it had in days. "Do you feel like that? I mean... About me?"
